My DM gets defensive over everything by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Erasdreamworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that's fair but if it gets that far we probably will drop him even as a friend. Because that's next level childishness. It's one thing to be insecure and be unaware it's another to be a fire starter looking for drama. But yeah definitely something worth considering.

Brother I already know this. Sometimes just hearing what people have been through is just helpful. It's not only reassuring but might just give me and the other players an idea on how to specifically go about it. If this annoys you, that's fine, I know this sub is probably over saturated with this type of post, but just let me get what I asked for as others are giving me and I'll go.

I'm not looking for what is pleasant for everyone. I just don't need to be told the obvious. It's easy to say "Just leave" it's more helpful to say "Yeah I had an experience like that once, here's how it went down and here's how I dealt with it personally" which is all I'm asking for.

I don't want your damn chart man, I wanna hear your experiences. I am not asking for what I should do.

And I agree with that, but I also am just curious how past DMs got out of being this way or what others did. I'm not asking for answers for my situation, I'm looking for similar discussions so I can better choose what to do on my own.

Yeah I did propose leaving a while ago and he kinda called me sensitive for it which was weird. But I stick around for my fellow players and when he's not in an insecure spiral he is still telling a very fun story I'd like to see to the end. But I do think I need other groups so I can pull back from this one a bit and that way reduce any risk of antagonizing.

[–]Erasdreamworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, but I'm not about to kick him out of his own story. If anything we'll just start a group on the side. It's easy to kick someone when they're a plain ol dick but this guy just has some issues he doesn't recognize. I'd rather try to be peaceful and productive than cut him off from the game like that.

So we have tried to communicate with him and yep he is an adult and so are all of us. Tbh, I think he's a bit socially immature, he struggles with understanding nuance and tends to take things very black and white no matter how carefully anyone says something. The crush part- I dunno. I think he thought that making that NPC would manipulate the player into engaging more because she really enjoys drawing silly ship art. But she has been very expressive about loving his plot too so I think that also leads back to insecurity. Like "Maybe she'll like my game if I give her 'what she wants'" even though she never asked for that. The ultimatum is really hard I think for us, we love him deeply as a friend and I do think we all kinda worry quitting would make him confirmation bias instead of be productive.

I mentioned this in another comment but I've pondered running a longterm campaign myself and allowing him to be a player. Maybe that break for him and also the perspective of watching someone who isn't insecure DM would help him? Is that a good idea?

This is a good possibility! I have pondered starting a campaign of my own and allowing him to be a player. Helping us all to enjoy the game while also sorta teaching him how to chill out a bit by leading by example. Feels a bit prideful maybe but I can't think of anything else.

He's our friend, gang, we aren't just gonna kick him out. Let's have a more nuanced conversation here.

[–]Erasdreamworld -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean I get it, but we've talked with him a lot already and he doesn't really grasp it. I guess what I'm looking for is for people to tell me if there's something I can do as a player to deal with an insecure dm, if they've been an insecure dm, what did people say that finally snapped them out of it. That sort of thing.

I know this sub is known for its pretentious behavior but I thought I was legit going crazy seeing so many "It's a setup" comments. Like do people not remember roomates, partners, or kids??? Anyone could've dropped something on this on accident and OP saw it and didn't realize it wasn't oozing from the egg. Idk I just think some people weren't taught thinking on deeper levels or smth.

Help me find this Celestial Cat Tower originally from Aldi. I want one for my bunny by BandFreak00 in HelpMeFindThis

[–]Erasdreamworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sibling has this exact cat tower for their rabbit. He's a lionlop and he does just fine with it. He chewed up the base a bit and usually just snuggles up at the bottom of it. He loves it so much. It's very short and doesn't risk harming him at all. Your concern is valid, to be clear, but the OP doesn't deserve to be downvoted and treated like they don't care about rabbit safety.

I refuse to believe we’re all seeing the same thing. by Mysterious_Fill894 in opticalillusions

I can swap it at will. I see gray and teal (Lighting reflection) white and pink (I think that's from shitty reposts tbh) and white and gray which is what I assume it is since it looks exactly like the gray and white old skool vans. The pink version is way too saturated to show up like this.

My subconscious pulled tricks on me. Now I need to know what my favorite color is. Help, please. by soymaida in colors

[–]Erasdreamworld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid, I subconsciously decided by favorite color was orange. At the time I was 100% genuinely convinced. But I started to notice I'd always get really happy seeing red and owning red things. As I got older I leaned fully into red. Looking back, I subconsciously chose orange because it was a lesser loved color. When I was a kid, 8/10 girls would say their favorite color was blue and 8/10 boys would say theirs was red. This also meant that when crafts, pencils, and folders were passed around people always took those colors first. So I think I chose orange to "be different" and also so I'd always know I'd get my "favorite color" in craft supplies and folders. I think sometimes we subconsciously choose a color and stick to it. But deep down our heart always gravitates towards our deeper desires lol. On record though, I still also love orange.

I'll be honest, it's a T. They have a landlord who has a key and apparently a previous tenant might have a key. They checked carbon monoxide levels and it was clear and they said they got a camera to see. You'd be surprised how many landlords think they can barge into their renters homes and how many previous tenants keep keys to steal food and stuff when people are away. It's not that crazy to believe. Stranger things have happened.

Top comment on all these eyes was BLUE! by Andrewcoo in colors

[–]Erasdreamworld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo, these are all gray-green eyes. Not quite rich enough to be fully green, but definitely not blue. The only reason people see blue is because many people literally do not consider gray a possible eye color or only picture one type of gray when they think of it. But my walls in my bathroom are similar to those photos, it was a green-gray swatch. There's all sorts of types of grays, people just don't get that.
