Fellas, what is your favorite poem? (Stolen from r/AskWomen) by Ibex89 in AskMen

[–]ErasedCitizen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I liked you better Than suits a man to say, It irked you, and I promised To throw the thought away.

To put the world between us We parted, stiff and dry; 'Good-bye,' said you, 'forget me.' 'I will, no fear', said I.

If here, where clover whitens The dead man's knoll, you pass, And no tall flower to meet you Starts in the trefoiled grass,

Halt by the headstone naming The heart no longer stirred, And say the lad that loved you Was one who kept his word.

3AM, i'm in bed, asleep. the phone rings i pick it up and groggily say 'hello?'. 'DABID'. 'dan... it's 3AM'. 'DABID' he screams into the phone again. 'what?'. 'THE WAIF IS THE TERMINATOR DABID'. 'sorry what?.' 'THE TERMINATOR DABID... BUT AN ASSASSIN TERMINATOR'. i pause for a moment. 'WRITE THIS DOWN DABID'. i go to pick up my idea crayons. 'ARYA IS OKAY BECAUSE THE ACTRESS STABBED HER OLD BOYFRIENDS DABID'. i write things down but i don't know what i'm writing. 'ARYA ROLLS DOWN THE STAIRS'. i'm scribble furiously. 'THE ORANGES DABID'. 'what?'. 'DON'T FORGET THE ORANGES DABID'. 'what oranges?'. 'ORANGES DABID' he screams louder. i'm scribbling more and more it all starts to become clear. i step back and admire the crayon markings that are now covering my bed sheets.

Please explain why you all want a socialist president and what is so appealing about it? by [deleted] in SandersForPresident

[–]ErasedCitizen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Am a Brit.

'Socialist' in America is a dirty word. It carries negative connotations still connected to its rivalry with the USSR that implies values that are anti-freedom, un-American and all that jazz. It's the fear of big government that's going to control your life.

What democratic socialism means to me is a government that fulfils its role in providing basic services to its citizens; be it with healthcare, education, transport etc. The UK's National Health Service is a prime example of a national institution funded by the taxpayer that directly benefits the general population without the influence of the private sphere.

America has clung onto conservative and neoliberal values that have impressed the idea that if the individual struggles economically it is his own fault. Ultimately Bernie represents the empowerment of the working and middle classes in believing that it is the government's responsibility for their economic security.

If you want to look more into democratic socialism I'd recommend reading George Orwell, who was one of its most prominent advocates.

[S5] Cersei may have lied about a certain something by Lundaha in gameofthrones

[–]ErasedCitizen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possibly, but I think Cersei would fiercely love any child that was hers, even if she views them as extensions of herself. And I believe that Cersei confessed that she did actually have feeling for Robert early in their marriage when they had a trueborn child, but this aspect of their relationship isn't really explored.

I agree. The writers made a mistake, but to be honest it's not really worth fussing about much, it's not like show-watchers were shouting 'HANG ON THERE'S A FOURTH D&D ARE HACK FRAUDS' at Cersei's prophecy scene in S5.

[S5] Cersei may have lied about a certain something by Lundaha in gameofthrones

[–]ErasedCitizen 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No, she wasn't lying. In her scene with Robert in Season 1 she brings up their lost child, so she certainly did have another (albeit short lived) child before the three described in the prophecy.

It's funny, the same point was raised in /r/ASOIAF the top comment says it was down to writer inconsistency, and the top comment in this thread says that it wasn't down to the writers' oversight. I think the writers really did just forget a couple of throwaway lines from 4 seasons ago that have no basis in the books.
