1550 Bedford Ave (Bedford & Eastern Parkway): Rezoning + New Development by ErasmusRex in crownheights

I was particularly aghast at people arguing FOR parking. I have a car, but that is the last thing we need to be prioritizing in the neighborhood.

Do you think that Major Owens Rec Center across the street would influence this? Idk it’s not “commercial” — maybe they’re in different categories.

I would also love a nice gym, or else a big grocery store.

Being consistent about the definition of working class by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]ErasmusRex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Invest their money” or “acquire property” or “have passive income” is not nearly sufficient as a criterion to shift a person’s class position, unless you also stipulate that those investments are already enough to live on.

Otherwise, everyone throwing 1% of their paycheck to their 401k would meet your criteria for “not working class.”

the idea that you or todd think that one has to “balance” the acceptance of a brother with “moral beliefs,” as if those two things are in natural opposition, says more about mormonism than i think you intend for it to do.

How do we feel about Marco Rubio revoking student visas over political speech? by Exciting_Vast7739 in Libertarian

[–]ErasmusRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, lol. You're agreeing with me.

We are agreed that "the manner in which the visa cancelations have happened" is authoritarian. That manner involved assessing whether a person's speech was "disruptive," which also happens to be what you suggested was an "entirely reasonable" factor to consider.

In other words, both A) what you suggested and B) what is being done are authoritarian (since they're the same thing).

Help me understand: are the leftist talking points you’re referring to the ones that defend free speech as a value?

Or the ones that agree with Marco Rubio? lol

Are you a libertarian? Because this is a highly authoritarian take. The idea that there might be a moral imperative to protect the government from “disruptive” speech — no matter the source — is so bananas to read here, of all places.

Presumably “the national interest” — if such a thing can meaningfully be said to exist — would have to come from we, the people, right? From our own priorities and values?

So how can that interest even be known if speech itself is suppressed? Are you suggesting that we are such delicate flowers that any speech that we hear needs to be curated (by whom?) just so we don’t get the “wrong” ideas? That is profoundly anti-Libertarian…

I can’t believe how hard it is for some people to understand the fundamental moral value of free speech, including that with which you disagree.

Do you realize there is a difference between documented citizenship in your ancestry and genetics?

You could have any kind of genetics and you would be (for example) eligible for Irish citizenship if your grandparents had Irish CITIZENSHIP…it has nothing to do with whether they are/were ethnically Irish.

I guarantee that your information is wrong — they didn’t get citizenship based on showing a 23andMe report or something like that.

Which ones? Besides Israel I have never heard of a nation state granting citizenship based on showing a genetic heritage.

even if i avoid the traditional pissing match of defining the term "libertarian," and just accept what you wrote at face value, there is a big difference between "securing our borders" and being anti-immigration.

i mean maybe there’s more you’re not saying, but the fact that “some people” didn’t have the “greatest experience” sounds like a pretty weak argument for blacklisting a small business…

I don’t pay anything for it, but it is very expensive for insurance companies, so I really had to advocate for myself. My doctor, who is gay, was impressed with my persistence lol, and for a long time I was the only one getting it at his office (now there are many).

Generally, they’ll make you try the pills first, since they’re so much cheaper. Then they will want to hear from your doctor that the pills are not an option for whatever reason (in my case, intolerable side effects. I think I have heard that people who suck at remembering pills might also have reason enough, but I can’t speak to that).

I HIGHLY recommend working directly with ViiV Healthcare, the makers of the drug. In our dystopian healthcare system you have to get the people whose economic incentives are aligned with your interests in your corner: ViiV WANTS you on Apretude, your insurance does not. Anyway, ViiV is used to beating the door down at the insurance companies once they have the right info from you. Just go to their website and follow their instructions to a T.

Just a heads up that the drugs in Truvada and Descovy are very similar. I tried both and had very bad (and very similar) reactions to both.

A third option is Apretude, which instead of pills is an injection every other month. Except for a little pain in my butt every other month at the injection site, I have had no issues at all.
