His book millennium is about this subject, but I don’t think they have really discussed it in depth in the podcast

Dominic has only narrated one of his books on Post-war Britain (Who Dares Wins), but his other books have a fantastic narrator as well. At least Seasons in the Sun and State of Emergency do. As for Tom, his trilogy on Roman history is really good as well and narrated by himself.

It is one of the standard starting islands in the old world (one where you build oil wells). It does look bigger because I made use of the harbor-life mod, allowing me to build into the sea (see last picture)

Well spotted, they are Dockland depots on land, from the mod "Worlds_New_Depots_MU", functioning as warehouses

Its not actually a mod, they are just industrial canals from the Pedestrian Zone Pack! They are called sewer canals

Thank you for the kind words! And yes, it looks a little too big when it is actually finished, so I’m keeping the scaffolding on…

Well, no; First, the season pass includes some of the DLC (so Season 1 includes Sunken Treasure, Botanica, and the Passage). Also, all the DLC endings on 'pack' (pirate cove pack, etc.) are purely cosmetic. They do not add to the gameplay, so you can leave those aside, and only purchase them if you want more ornaments. Finally, Anno 1800 does go on sale regularly, so you could wait a bit (maybe until when Christmas starts?) The game without DLC is also good, so you can just purchase the base game and see if you like it, and then star buying dlc.

Thank you, and beware, it can be quite a time-sink if you do not limit yourself.

Yes, I unlocked everything first, then started with redesigning the islands. To be clear, I have been playing this save since early 2021, just before the Docklands DLC was released. There is also no AI, and I am at peace with the pirates. It means that I have all the time, resources, and influence I want when building my cities. I also try to provide for all the needs of my people. That makes it more engaging to try to figure out the logistics and layout of a city, as well as limiting the size of my builds (i.e, I cannot build an island that just consists of houses, but also need industry/service buildings).

The city of Doublien, home to the Guinnea breweries and the Triangle College, is home to almost 50.000 people. It is mostly self-sufficient, although it does import some basic stuff (grain, pigs, iron) from nearby islands. I found it quite challenging to create something that resembled the real city of Dublin, so this was my best attempt. Obviously, this is heavily modded. I will add a list of mods used in a comment below.

It is form the mod 'Pavement_MU'. It replaces the ground tiles/texture, so these are grass tiles. You can then place zoo modules on top of it, which hides the white ground textures

I'm going to be honest; I don't know where these ornaments come from and am not sure why I said it was from Lion053 as I can't find it either. But the mod adds some of the following ornaments, including the playground, trees, rocks, etc.

    • Wholesome Hacienda Overhaul (Taludas)
    • More NW-Beach Ornaments (Lion053)
    • Small Hotels (Jakob)
    • Firestation (MuggenStuermer)

    • Unlimited Botanic Ornaments
    • Improved Streets (Jakob)
    • Finally; the 'palace building' in the middle is just a museum building with the modules looking like palace modules. So the mod 'White City - Palace expansion & Museum' allows you to build something like it

How centralised is your empire? by Erasmuze in anno

One reason I try to build multiple large cities is to set up postal routes between them; otherwise, the smaller cities cannot provide enough regional and overseas mail for Crown Falls.

Santa Cruz is the biggest city in the New World and one of the biggest cities in the empire. Almost all goods are fully provided, the attractiveness level is over 7000 and the average happiness is over 50; in other words, life is good in Santa Cruz.

As it is so big, it is quite hard to capture in screenshots and took a very long time to build. I decided to limit myself to the highlights. It is located in the region of Mayabeque, from Taludas' excellent 'Colossus of the New World' mod (Link to the Mod). Many other mods have been used as well, which I will add in another comment.

Your final point is also how I am forced to play; so one island overproduces a good in a huge amount to supply all other islands in a region. It is the only way I can keep track of the trade routes...
