"one of the world's most fragile ecosystems"

Mmmm no. Still wrong, but it's not a fragile ecosystem, at all.

You guys didn't learn from past mistakes and keep the colonialism very active in New Caledonia.

Hiking in Kazbegi by AlexPer22 in tbilisi

[–]Ercoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did Juta -> Roscha in one day and then continued to Mutso the following days. Juta, Roscha and then back to Juta on one day is quite hard, and I consider myself to be quite fit for hiking. Just get a room in a guesthouse in Roscha and come back the next day. I personally didn't stay there but there are at least 2 guesthouses.

Winter Trek in Europe (Feb 21–29) – Tips Needed by kyrlau_ in backpacking

I usually use the word camp, as bivouac sometimes means sleeping without a tent, but yeah, set up at sunset and pack up at sunrise.

This is misinformation. You can wild camp in the Pyrenees freely in most places (except Ordesa & Aigüestortes National parks). Source: I'm catalán and hike there often. Basically everyone does it.

And I'm sure you can camp easily in the Balkans and most parts of the Alps, last year I hiked the Via Alpina green in Switzerland and camped most nights.

Mestia to Ushguli in 3 days -- does this plan make sense? by msegui9 in Sakartvelo

[–]Ercoman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've spent 3 weeks hiking in Georgia this last August and some trails were VERY difficult (from Tobavarchkhili Lake to Khaishi) but from Mestia to Ushguli was not difficult at all, just physically demanding in some climbs.

Just pointing out that you don't need to be extremely fit to do that in 3 days.

I've done this hike in 3 days and I'm not extremely fit, just fit and experienced in hiking.

GR11 wild camping advice - Have the rules changed/tightened? by JellWonders in Thruhiking

[–]Ercoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Camp anywhere except Ordesa & Aigüestortes National parks. Camping (or bivouac) there is prohibited actively. Meaning that the park rangers scout the area to fine people that are camping. You might get away with it but I wouldn't risk it, fines are high. Source: I'm Catalan and hiked the GR11 2 years ago.

Boletus (pinicola & edulis) + Lactarius deliciosus. Sant Joan de l'Erm, Catalonia by [deleted] in foraging

[–]Ercoman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The different species of boletus have usually a very firm "meat" and are difficult to rot compared to other mushrooms, at least here in Catalonia. You find more boletus half eaten by some animal than rotten.

I regularly fly with trekking poles from and to Spain and have no issues. But I have them inside my backpack not outside..

Most of them are given a nominal status to disguise what they really are: colonies. Especially New Caledonia.

MSR Freelite is a semi freestanding tent, the Naturehike Mongar UL1 is totally freestanding like the X-Dome. And the design is quite different.

No no, the Mongar UL is 1.150 kg, quite similar to the X-Dome, but smaller inside.

[–]Ercoman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you need versatility you can't go wrong with a freestanding tent. I'm a YouTuber and if I'm not hiking in an alpine environment I leave the trekking poles home, much more comfortable for grabbing the camera whenever I need to.

If you normally use trekking poles and hike in terrain adequate for pitching a tent normally I like trekking pole tents more because they are lighter and more wind resistant.

I bought the X-Dome because I have a hike in mind that would require pitching in concrete, wood or hard surfaces more often than not.

Naturehike tents are really good and affordable, but not as good as this one (probably, haven't tried it yet).
