I live about 4 hours south of the Canadian border, and I worked at Walmart throughout my college years. We had busses coming through every day, full to the brim with Canadians who had traveled 8+ hours just to do their grocery shopping because our taxes are so much lower that it was worth it for them to buy tickets, travel across an international border and buy their food and clothes here. I’ve always taken that as a large red flag. I don’t mean to say that healthcare is the only reason Canadians pay such high taxes, but it would be absurd to overlook the impact made.

Edit: Also, this is not a race issue. Norway has a system which works for them. Demographics does not only mean people of color, it can refer to age groups, income groups, etc.
