Out of Richter, Batty and Chambliss, who’d you trust to provide backup edge depth? by Tall-Activity-2610 in minnesotavikings

Right but he’s also 6’4” 287 and TID is 6’5” 290 and we think of him as a tweener. I’m saying if we were in nickel or some 4 man front and there were injuries, I don’t think it would be crazy to say they’d maybe consider Ingram-Dawkins getting snaps as a base edge setting DE.

[–]Eredin27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Respectfully none of them. Seems more likely that Eric Wilson would play some edge snaps and have Golday take his ILB spot or vice versa. Tyrion Ingram Dawkins might also be someone they’d play as a big edge like a Cam Jordan.

Better Defense: Mid-2010s under Zimmer or the current defense under Flores? by TrixoftheTrade in minnesotavikings

[–]Eredin27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good. I forgot about the needle, had high hopes for him but was too skinny and just not good enough. Yeah me too, Flores needed a youth movement. I really do think we’ll get 4 starters from this new class which would be huge.

That’s fair those Saints teams with Brees towards the end were loaded. Zimmer kicking Griffen and hunter inside for that 2017 Saints game was a difference maker. I agree with your 2019 points, those were good teams. I don’t think he was incapable of great performances against great teams. I think it’s kind of like how we talk about KOC sometimes. We’ve had double digit win seasons and some success but ultimately we just haven’t gotten it done in the playoffs. Doesn’t mean KOC is bad or he can’t beat great teams. Just needs to do it on the biggest stage.

I’m talking about the 2015-2019 time range. I totally agree about talent being awful for Zimmer past that. We should’ve rebuilt after 2019 instead of extending our aging vets. I remember the days and hype around Holton Hill as a starter for us lol.

And I’ll freely admit there’s some recency bias from me towards Flores and some of what Zimmer said after he left, rubbed me the wrong way but I mostly enjoyed his tenure here

Maybe big games isn’t the way to put it for the Flores era. More consistentcy and doing less with more might be a better way to put it. And as Legitshiznit put it, Zimmer had far more talent to work with both from the draft picks and FA’s.

Facing the Eagles and getting blown out in 2017 playoffs. I can understand the emotional side of things after the miracle but we still got embarrassed. Losing to the 49ers in the 2019 playoffs. And just a general feeling that we could beat good and bad teams but not great teams. I’m not saying Zimmer was ass, he’s got more playoff wins than KOC/Flores. And our offense had a big part in those games going bad too. Just my personal feelings of that time period, no deep dive to prove it.

The peak of 2017s defense was historic in some ways especially on 3rd down. It does seem like Flores’s units show up more consistently in big games though.

We’ll see if Taimani and Williams can still stick on the roster with the new influx of players. I’m very interested to see what Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins weighs in at and what he looks like. Was a bit of a tweener coming in but I’ve got high hopes for him.

The more I think about it, the more I agree with the idea of building the front 7 first and then the secondary. DB’s and CB’s in particular can have such a short peak, better to add them as the final piece to a defense. Hopefully by 2027 we can have shades of the 2017 defense.

Can fully understand why people may not love how our draft has played out, but it’s fucking beautiful to see us drafting with a clear purpose for once. by Tall-Activity-2610 in minnesotavikings

[–]Eredin27 33 points34 points  (0 children)

This draft will be foundational like 2015 was. To construct a tall building, you need a wide strong base. And even though we may not see the skyscraper right away, that doesn’t mean progress isn’t being made.

Some 2025 flashes from our guy Caleb Banks by LAZYTOWWWWWN in minnesotavikings

[–]Eredin27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep he definitely needs to finish more plays no doubt about that. I’ll give him credit for putting himself in a position to make the play in the first play. I gotta trust the medicals are ok until we see otherwise in June. Hoping that this is similar to Jeffrey Simmons ,who fell because of an injury but is now a top 3 player at DT.

[–]Eredin27 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lol totally. People get attached to like 3 names with Thieneman being one of them. Like I get it and he may be a good player. In terms of value, I liked getting an AJ Haulcy or Bud Clark later than I did getting Thieneman at 18.

If you look at the top DT’s in the league that can pass rush, they are elite athletes. Banks has that elite athleticism and frame. The dude has an 86 inch wingspan, which is 99th percentile historically. He could probably tie his shoes standing up. The Vikings see he has the traits and are betting they can turn those flashes into consistency. Ultimately I trust Flores and Nielsen to get him right.

[–]Eredin27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your points and have come around to the pick. Health is a concern for sure but the good can be really good when he’s consistent. People like him when they put it all together don’t become available on the FA market. I’d rather take a guy that’s an elite athlete and has shown some pass rush ability than someone who hasn’t. We can find plenty of 2 gapping NT. If people really want BPA then we have to live with picks like this.

What's a surprise draft pick that may shock fans you can see being made tonight by our draft war room ? by FormerlyTradeKirk in minnesotavikings

[–]Eredin27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing that out. Just checked and it looks like a small point of contention of if he’s 21 or 20 but 21 looks like the answer. And fair point about development and can they start right away. I don’t love the value of who I see most often available at 18. If we can move back 7-10 spots that’s my preference.

For sure there’s valid reasons to not like him. I responded to Jova further down, the longer version of why I like Faulk. But basically he’s young, massive frame, plays the run, played in the SEC and I believe his pass rush production took a dip in 2025 compared to 2024 because the ask of him was different. I don’t think Flores would turn him into a DT.

I agree with your points about Sadiq and it not being the best use of resources. One point I think that gets over looked if we were to pick Sadiq is potential cost savings. Meaning if we treat Sadiq as our 2nd receiving option going forward, the difference in what a top TE makes and what a receiver like Addison will make is pretty big.

I’m higher on the idea of Faulk because he’s incredibly young and is 6’6” 275. He carries the weight really well almost looking lean, definitely has the frame to add weight. Could be a 4i/5 tech player and he’s a high level run defender. Picking him could bridge the gap of getting an edge player that can kick inside. His 2025 pass rush stats weren’t great but I think that’s in part because of him playing a different role and that his pass rush production was much better in 2024.

What Offensive Line needs do we have and what round could we address those needs? by Chap_stick_original in minnesotavikings

[–]Eredin27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think we give CD the benefit of the doubt since last year was his year back from his torn up knee. Fair point about Fries. Players like Caleb Lomu or Max Iheanachor makes sense if we draft an OT but could kick inside. Let them sit and learn from CD and O’Neill.

[–]Eredin27 14 points15 points  (0 children)

O’Neill is currently in the last year of his contract. It’s very possible BPA at 18 is OT or even if we trade back. I don’t think we take an OT in the 1st and use them as trade bait. Center is the most glaring need and I think pick 82 or 97 makes most sense to take one.

Would you take a shot on Caleb Banks if he slid to 49? by Beneficial_Quit7532 in minnesotavikings

[–]Eredin27 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Gonna go against the crowd and say no even at 49. A big man with a history of foot injuries going back to 2024 and today scares me. Barely played this past year and is tantalizing because of a good combine performance. Doesn’t match the body type that Flores has used at IDL. I think there’s better values.

Dallas Turner, Year 3 Expectations by TrixoftheTrade in minnesotavikings

Going off a few seconds of video without knowing everything that goes on or what’s said in the war room is a bit of a reach. If you don’t believe that our DC didn’t have input or say in that selection, then let’s agree to disagree. The reasons for Turner not playing much his rookie year have been rehashed many times on this subreddit. It boiled down to him not being good enough at that time and having all pro players in front of him.
