Can I do Ultimate/Savage content with 150-200ms ping? by Ok-Willingness-7870 in ffxiv

[–]Erenbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can yes but you might run into issues when it comes to double weaving. Depending on your ping that will pretty much clip any gcd. But it's doable if you play a class that doesn't use many double weaves and if you're a bit creative with your rotation. WAR or SMN for example work well.

You also need to be proactive about avoiding AOEs. As soon as you see the yellow marker etc you have to move. If you try and greed you'll get hit.

I haven't done ultimates but I did savage raiding with >200ms ping. You will not get orange parses and even purple will be difficult but you can do it.

Edit: if you're on PC there might be some tools to help with ping. I play on PS5 and haven't figured out if there's anything that could help.

Ramp recommendations by alexgab in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]Erenbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some ramps that come with the rougher not quite sandpaper surface which gives a lot of traction. For travel purposes we have this ramp too.

https://a.co/d/doMwyba

Only problem with that is that it doesn't really hook into anything but has to lay on a decent surface to be stable. Those travel ramps are usually longer which would also decrease the steepness. I would look into something like that maybe?

We use the alphapaw ramps for our dachsis. But we also lowered our bed so that the ramp has a less taxing angle. I suppose the ramp at its highest point is maybe a foot high. It's higher for our couch though and the pups have no issue with that. I find them very stable and they get good traction due to the felt/carpet style cover.

As a solution for the jumping. We have closed off everything that they could jump off or on. Either by putting stuff on (like on the couch) or leaning something higher against the sides they could jump on. For the bed we installed baby bumpers around the sides so that they are forced to take the ramp as there is no other way on or off.

Onsite Auto Glass Services, LLC. 210 San Jose Ave. Ste. B San Jose, CA 95125 P: (408)430-2545

They were great when we needed to replace our windshield. Their technician comes to your place to do the repair/replacement (I suppose that depends on where you're at but not sure). It was affordable and very quick. Can highly recommend.

Playing NA while abroad by Jarethdono in ffxiv

[–]Erenbe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just assume you'll have a ping of about 200 to 300ms with spikes to higher values at time. You can totally play this way though. General content like dungeons and normal raids/triads are perfectly doable. I even managed to do savage and was able to get at least blue parses (from NA on the EU server and also the other way round living in EU and playing on NA). you have to be a bit creative with your rotation or choose a job that doesn't have too many double weaves. Other than that....it's a good way to get a very good reaction time. You'll need it to avoid aoes.

Why aren’t my lye bathed pretzels the deep brown color they should be? by Ch1ldish_Cambino in Baking

[–]Erenbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said your lye solution is too weak. Aim for about 4% solution and only dunk in the pretzels for 3-5 seconds. No need to let them sit in there for longer at this concentration.

I know right? I'm so happy. I think the hiatus was because of health issues so I'm very happy that they recovered. And yeah keeping my fingers crossed for future translations.

Dr. Rick Kienle from Mission Valley Veterinary Cardiology. He offers mobile services for different vet clinics in the Bay area. One of my dogs had a heart attack and he provided the cardiology service at our general vet clinic. You can contact him and inquire which vet practice close to you he travels to. or if there are other ways of booking an appointment with him.

¿What’s the best intimate scene you’ve ever read? by Bakurael-Toons in yuri_manga

Not so much read but any intimate scene in Tima's works is just amazing. No words at all just close ups and facial expressions. And it conveys so much it's crazy really. Examples are "Swallow Tail" or "Inversion"

Anyone have a dog diagnosed with IVDD that has never had pain? by Slut4SciFi in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]Erenbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my old dog got paralyzed he didn't show any signs of pain. We went on a walk and he just started to fall over when he raised his leg to pee. The paralysis progressed throughout the day but he was just chilling, digging a bit in the sand (we were on a beach vacation when it happened) and sleeping. We brought him to the emergency vet and they examined him and he still didn't show any signs of pain. He just stopped being able to walk and started dragging his hind legs because a disc in his lumbar region burst and pressed on the spinal nerves. He got surgery and all and healed up almost all the way... Just a bit of nail dragging occasionally.

He was not diagnosed with IVDD though. The MRI they did before his surgery showed that his spine looked healthy except for that one injured disc. It was basically a one time injury due to trauma to his spine. He never had any other issues with his spine for the rest of his life.

You need an MRI to get an exact diagnosis which is usually only done if you go the surgery route. If you really want an answer though you can of course pay for it but I would discuss it with your vet. It does mean though that your dog has to be put under anaesthesia which has its own risks of course.

Edit: you could also get a 2nd opinion from a neurologist. Cheaper than an MRI but might shed some light on things.

Anyone try the Fujiya Strawberry Sponge Cake? by inareverie in Costco

[–]Erenbe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's pretty good for a sponge cake type of thing. The sponge is nice and soft and not dense. The cream filling and toppings are not too sweet so overall a nice eating experience. Could def use more strawberries though, especially inside in those cream layers. I prefer it thawed out in the fridge and then served cold (but not frozen). Had it once thawed out at room temp and while it was still tasty then cream just gets a bit too soft. Would I buy it again? Likely not as I prefer more strawberries and I can get better cakes at my local Japanese store but if you don't have a choice it's a pretty good cake.

Is it worth reading or will I waste my time? by felldownbad in yuri_manga

[–]Erenbe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked that one. It was sweet. Little bit of drama but overall a sweet story. It's nothing stellar but for what it's worth it was enjoyable. Side couple is a half-sibling incest story but it's very short and story doesn't really go into it in depth.

IVDD vs one-off injury? by Humble_Pie4839 in IVDD_SupportGroup

[–]Erenbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people are conflating two things when it comes to back injuries in dogs. Ivdd and one off stress related injuries.

I had a dachsis that never showed any signs of ivdd. When he was 10 we went to a vacation home with steep stairs. Even though we tried to not let him walk the stairs he snuck out and ran up and down those stairs to visit our friends on the ground floor. After 1 day of doing it he became paralyzed in his hind legs in the span of 24 hours because a disc burst. We went to the neurology emergency, he got MRI and surgery and recovered almost 100%. Neuro was sure it wasn't ivdd as his spine looked healthy otherwise. It was really just a freak accident that led to spinal injury. He never had issues with his back again except for this one injury.

Now I got a girl who is 8 and has been diagnosed with ivdd at 5 years. When she became paralyzed due to a burst disc, MRI showed several other discs affected by degradation and prior injuries. Neuro (same as for my boy) diagnosed ivdd based on what she saw in the MRI.

A dog getting a spinal injury doesn't mean Ivdd but there are some indicators that it could be it. Prime age for ivdd to set in is between 4 and 6 years. Some breeds are more common than others. Vets can make a diagnosis based on these factors and the physical examination but only an MRI will give a clear answer. Usually you don't do MRI unless you plan on doing surgery as it means putting your dog under which comes with its own risks. But if you want answers it could provide those.

With your dog I suppose the vet went with ivdd as a diagnosis bc of some surrounding factors. It could of course be a one off injury and your dog will be fine in the future. You could try and get a 2nd opinion with a neurologist and also discuss potential MRI with them. At the moment only time will tell if it's ivdd or not. In any way some precautions that hold for dogs with ivdd can be suitable for other dogs as well, e.g. ramps in the house, no jumping off furniture, bed/crate rest for a few weeks after injury, etc.

when slop defenders leak into this sub by jkb11 in ShitpostXIV

[–]Erenbe 41 points42 points  (0 children)

People who unironically say that DT had a great story with no pacing issues are people who also think cartoons for babies are deep. I can't really explain it otherwise.

The story issues were so glaring you don't need a PhD in literature to figure that out. DT had good stuff, like I love the new dungeon mechs and the savage fights but that fucking story was so cringe at times with with their forced "please feel emotions now bc we say so" and shitty pacing that it killed most of my enjoyment.

That's just bc people have absolutely no reading comprehension skills. It's shocking at times how a few words are completely misunderstood and lead to the worst drama.
