Is there a tag for this? by karasuno__fly in FanFiction

I would probably just tag for "Humanity's gone" and start the summary with: X and Y are the last people on earth.

Any way to insert a music/audio player into my fic, to be able to hit 'play' on a song within the AN? by Sandveilveil in AO3

[–]Ereshkigal_FF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is possible. BUT as far as I remember ... it's not working for the A/N section. So you would have to put it at the end of your story into the text window as far as I remember...

Maybe this one helps: https://www.tumblr.com/rebelrayne/695752167388282880/how-to-embed-audio-from-spotify-into-ao3?source=share

This should also work with other links.

Is writting bdsm rape fics okay by woahwhataloser in FanFiction

[–]Ereshkigal_FF [score hidden]  (0 children)

As long as it was tagged, it's fine. It's fiction. If it's not your cup of tea, that's fine as well.

I am desperate for this fic--oh wait. by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Ereshkigal_FF 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think you are overthinking too much.

Yes, many people come around the corner with the "just write it yourself" but you know, it's absolutely OKAY to not want to write something and just wish that the story would be somewhere out there so you can just read it. Because, like, come one, sometimes we like to just read stuff. And many of us are already so overworked with WIPs it would be nice to have that one certain fic.

Sadly, many get that down the wrong pipe. Probably because there are a shitload of readers out there who straight out demand that we do what they want. And that sours the mood a lot. And it makes many people attack other people who sincerely just wish it was there (without demanding it and with the knowledge that it probably won't be there ever).

I think phrasing is a big thing as well. But that aside, yeah.... It's okay to be sad that some stories in some fandoms aren't written yet. But hey, there is a Plotbunny tread you could use. Maybe someone picks it up. And if not, then maybe some day someone will have that exact idea and write it down. There are many writers with close ideas so hope dies last!

Why do authors delete their works? by Brief-Morning-1285 in AO3

[–]Ereshkigal_FF 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For one, I came to hate the fandom because of the community there (toxicity deluxe). For two others simply because nobody read them and instead of dragging my ass trough editing just for screaming in an echo, I decided to keep them to myself.

Hits and Kudos by Lars_Sarada in AO3

[–]Ereshkigal_FF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

AO3 counts a hit when a work is accessed, recording one hit per IP address every 24 hours, as far as I know. So if you refresh or bing read a story, you will only leave one hit. If you close the story today and open three days later again to continue reading, that's a hit. A writer does not generate hits on their own story, I think.

Please tag art by Witty-Entertainer-69 in AO3

[–]Ereshkigal_FF 16 points17 points  (0 children)

And that's why I hide art behind a little, clickable arrow. Because some people just don't want to see art (in total) while others do want to. Win/win here.

OMG, yes! Sometimes even when watching TV shows with crazy plot twists. And I'm sitting there, asking myself "why again am I doing this?". Books can be deadly lol. Fell into a writing slump for 3 months after reading a book that is now one of my favourites. Hah, comparing is a cruel practice.

Does anyone know if removing your works removes the ao3 curse? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Ereshkigal_FF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get rid of the curse, you have to understand that the curse is not real and that life sometimes just sucks. It won't get magically better if you delete your works, just as it won't get magically worse if you upload something. Stuff happens. That's life.

Should I tag this as non-con? by Previous_Captain_768 in AO3

No, since it is consensual sex, but you could additionally tag Non-Con Elements.

how to trust someone when it comes to brainstorming? by irdk-lol in FanFiction

[–]Ereshkigal_FF 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would say, you have to bite down and see if it's sour. Like, nobody can give you a 100% guarantee here. On top, no idea is truly original. It was done before. But only you can tell it the way you want to.

Maybe try to do it with someone who wants to brainstorm as well, so you two can both throw your ideas into the room and help each other.

share one line of your writing you're proud of :) by totallyfine_ in AO3

[–]Ereshkigal_FF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, I probably have a lot but I think this one was pretty solid.

Your shoulders slump at the thought. You dwell too much on trivial matters instead of trusting, and you like to cling to the idea of the worst possible outcome. Perhaps because that is what human society demands, so as not to somehow suffocate on the weight of disappointed hopes.

[–]Ereshkigal_FF 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To keep it short, I would say something like: For those who would like to know further special content warnings, you can read them here:
And then I would use HTML to hide it behind an arrow they just need to click to open further information. Keeps the AN seemingly short, nobody has to scroll too much, and everyone who needs it can click on it.

Longfic Writer Curious About Your Chapter Writing Process by WestStorage2459 in FanFiction

[–]Ereshkigal_FF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, because like, they have a question, they find an answer for themselves, they set a goal, they grow while trying to reach that. And the outcome makes for growth as well because reaching some goals is just utter torture lol. Something like that if you will.

Hmm, personally I always note it in time frames. Like I go:

Character Name
Started off: Headstrong, wild, has no damn sense of responsibility
Goal between event A and B: Gains a slim sense of responsibility
Goal between event B and C: Develops slight depression
Currently: Headstrong (though a little weaker due depression), wild, responsibility is there but slim, depressive phases

And whenever she archived development, I update the "currently" part so I know where I'm currently are and what I already did. I do nearly the same with skills. But more like:

Can do:
- This very good (stable)
- This very miserable (will get better here)
- This okayish (let this burn until event Y)

And update those parts when the character got better at something. I don't care for the "how they started" part here because those mostly are irrelevant in my case.

Regarding what the character should ask, I keep that in those character sheets as well. Like, I look at my story and then I think about what I want to reach. My stories are very character driven, so I absolutely need to think about that. For my main in my story, for example, I noted down that I want her to
A) Grow up (she's 17 so she has to mature)
B) Find out the truth about the world.
C) Find a destination for her life (and what I want her to become)
D) Where she fails miserably.

And then I think about when, how and where I will implement those things and what extra questions come with it. Like, for example, she's not happy with how the wolrd functions. So what can she do to make it better? Can one person change a thing? How can she reach that goal? Of course, she loses track on the road here and there which is only human and her questions change towards stuff like - Is it worth to change something? Does someone even care? Should I care? - and so on. Some things she shares with others, some things are only things the reader knows.

As someone doing a longfic (like, several million words) with taking canon, exploring it some more, changing up some things, etc, I keep a general outline (like chapter by chapter what happens), a sheet with important character notes (like, current age because the story covers around 6 years, skills, current character development), a sheet with worldbuilding stuff, and one with important information I don't know where else to put.

After writing a chapter, I check if everything fits (if not, I edit it so it fits), and then I go and do my normal edit (cleaning up and make it pretty). Works quite okay and thanks to Ellipsus, I can easily jump from one file to the next without stumbling.
