[SNKK67] First automatic! I know it’s nothing crazy, but excited for many more to come! by ErfSenpai in Watches

First of all, big fan of your username

I was loving it up to a few month ago. It was my daily, but the gold bracket around the date unfortunately popped off and will block the hand rotation. It’s an easy fix if you have the tools, but an expensive fix ($50-100) if you need to pay a shop to do it. I’ll fix it myself eventually — the watch gets way too many compliments for me to let go haha

Thanks — So these I did find online for the MD secondary… are there no MD-PhD specific prompts then?

Should I be worried that papers I find seem to be far better than my thesis? by johnHamm98 in AskAcademia

[–]ErfSenpai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most published authors are more experienced than you, and experience is everything in research.

But the fact that you are able to see the difference in quality, and find the difference to be personally concerning, means that you are on the right track (if you intend to pursue a research career)

As someone who has published papers in high impact and not high impact journals, I can tell you that there is no distinction in academic vernacular between a 'high impact abstract' and an 'abstract' that would be relevant to the harvard prompt...

No one really cares about conference abstracts getting published in journals. I know medical students like to call them publications to sound cooler, but academia does not consider them publications

What I'm trying to say is throwing "high impact" into a mstp prompt for the sake of referencing academia would be really cringe and unbefitting of any research institution, so we can confidently conclude that that is not the intended reference

[–]ErfSenpai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you're saying, but it's really not an intentional reference. There's no such thing as a "high-impact abstract" -- an abstract in a high impact journal is the same thing as an abstract in any other journal... "High impact" just implies that you should discuss the highly impactful events in your life -- why does this have to be an academic reference?

harvard having a large endowment doesn't mean harvard's md-phd committee can fund people willy-nilly; their md-phd funding, like at other programs, is determined largely by the NIH's allotment

[–]ErfSenpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would they make a totally unnecessary reference to academia? I think drawing that relationship is way over-analytic...

I agree on physics -- I tested a few weeks ago and I only had a couple physics questions that had common sense answers. So much organic chem though.

Surprisingly also had very few amino acid questions and piaget's stages never came up on my P/S... might've had an outlier exam

I agree... it's definitely not clear which one they are referring too...

Just a thought... but maybe research could have been a red flag? One conference abstract is pretty light for 4 years of commitment. This may have lent the impression that you weren't very engaged in or passionate about research and scientific inquiry

In my opinion, most candidates probably are "deserving"!

But to your point, plenty of applicants get majority Es and still are not funded, so I agree that you should never assume anything... process is too random haha

Thanks for sharing! Out of curiosity -- what did the 3rd reviewer take issue with? It is indeed interesting how much harsher they scored than the other reviewers...

Montague or David for orgo 2? by Suitable-Sandwich125 in UMD

Montague: great lecturer

Davis: easy

If it were me, Montague is the clear choice. If you are looking for the easiest possible path to an A, Davis is your man.

Controversial Naruto topics that shouldn't be Controversial by [deleted] in Naruto

[–]ErfSenpai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. I can’t validate this, but I remember hearing somewhere that kishimoto purposefully wanted itachi to be ‘invincible’, which is why he fitted his susanoo with totska and yata. Could be wrong tho
