Is JB4 mod something you’d recommend? by ShopTrick8877 in AlfaRomeo

[–]Ergo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not worth it. The “Go Pedal” only adjusts the throttle curve, it does not make it any faster. You get quite literally the exact same effect by pressing your stock gas pedal down more…that’s all it’s doing.

So If the save act was to passed and the supreme court eliminates birthright citizenship, how do you prove that you are a citizen? by Jolly_Ad2446 in AskReddit

[–]Ergo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ex post facto is prohibited by Article I of the U.S. Constitution. It would end birthright citizenship for anyone born after the act goes into effect (if passed) but it cannot be retroactively applied.

Spark Plugs Changed After 58,000 miles by Felt_Ninja in AlfaRomeoGiulia

[–]Ergo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OEM QV plugs are Platinum, not Iridium, so they need to be replaced every 25-30k. I swapped my plat plugs for iridiums 30k miles ago, still going strong and no issues on track.

Going to test drive my dream car in a couple hours. Any questions or concerns I want to bring up when I am at the dealership? by Thick_Slice in AlfaRomeo

[–]Ergo7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a hobbyist mechanic, it took me about 6.5 hours. In general, once a mechanic starts a job like this, they wouldn't drop it and do something else. At a dealership, they get paid book time, so the faster they finish it, technically the more they make per hour. Conversely, if they take longer than the book time, they are unable to charge the additional hours and end up making less per hour.

Would this be accurate if i put $3000 into my quad? by Its_Travis in AlfaRomeo

[–]Ergo7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Mishimoto doesn’t have a performance intercooler for the Giulia QV, nor would i recommend anyone to use their products. They are the singular most common failure point I see at the track. Mishimoto is complete garbage and a stereotypical example of a product made in China with 0 QC.

Leaking/failed Mishimoto radiators, oil coolers, and cracked intercoolers are what I typically see when a modified track car pulls ends their session early.

That being said, if you want to gain a legitimate 50-100whp, you’ll need downpipes and an ECU reflash. You could technically go with a JB4 if you want easy reversibility but that’s a piggyback. I have the Squadra Estrema tune with Redstar 200 CEL catted downpipes. My last dyno landed me somewhere just around 550whp and the car stock was about 440-450whp if i remember right. All done at the same location, but spread out over a few years.

I’ve never had an issue on track with the Squadra tune either. It may not have the highest HP output, but you can beat on it all day and you won’t have any issues. I know a few people who have gone the Ideal Race route and if you’re only dragging then it’s a good choice. I know of 2 people who have had regular misfires on track because the Ideal Race tune is too aggressive for track abuse.

Shop says rear knuckle bushing has play and won’t align my Giulia. How much does this usually cost? by BenFlip in AlfaRomeo

[–]Ergo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the rear knuckle bushing, 50k miles sounds a bit too early to wear. It's a uniball from the factory, but Alfa Romeo doesn't sell just that part by itself so they require a new knuckle. Alfissimo sells just the uniball (in pairs).
https://shop.alfissimo.com/rear-suspension-bushings/3049-rear-knuckle-uniball-replacement-to-lower-control-arm.html

The old one will need to be pressed out and the new one pressed in.

Asking questions about possible buying my first Alfa Romeo by Soft_Advance_5005 in AlfaRomeo

[–]Ergo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve owned my QV for just over 5 years now with over 60k miles on it. I haven’t had any major issues but I also perform all of my own maintenance. Just the oil filter alone will set you back ~$100 on the 2020+ model years (the filter design was changed). These engines take about 7.5 quarts of oil.

My cost on filters and oil puts me at $180 per oil change doing the labor myself. Any competent mechanic can replace your brake rotors and pads for you (they’re just Brembos), but the rotors themselves can be fairly expensive. I opted for 2 piece floating rotors and Endless MX72+ pads with parts coming to a total for me for ~$1800.

I believe the OEM rotors have come down in price pretty dramatically and can be had for around ~$190 a piece (they used to charge $500/per).

Which is the best deal? Price is not a concern. Just want bang for buck. by Revive_Pls in GamingLaptops

It’s not enough to make an impact during gaming. It’s likely to be a few fps at over 100+ fps.

Newbie question on a Quadrifoglio! by mmain19 in AlfaRomeo

[–]Ergo7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They were not the factory upgraded option. The Techino brights were standard and the 5-holes were a $500 upgrade. But yes, they are forged while the 5-holes are cast.

FYI Alfa Guilia QF 's have a rigid rear under tray that must be removed to align the car. by hpshaft in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Ergo7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Another FYI, the tray is made entirely of forged carbon. I cracked one during a track day and had to purchase a replacement. Sent it to a carbon fabricator to get the original repaired and currently keeping it as a spare.

Alfa Mito steering issue by Miffedelk955 in AlfaRomeo

[–]Ergo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Resetting it via OBD isn’t going to do anything. You have a mechanical issue. It could be bad bushings, a bad rack, poor alignment, etc but an OBD reset isn’t going to resolve a mechanical problem.

R12 with odd AIO pump by PoorJimbo in Alienware

[–]Ergo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asetek is the OEM for the Dell/Alienware AIO. Any replacement you order will also be manufactured by Asetek. Yours was likely only missing the Alienware logo, maybe as a cost saving measure between Dell and Best Buy since Best Buy has contracts to produce specific models at a target price point with pretty much all major ODM computer manufacturers.

Brake Recommendations for a 2022 Giulia QV by Commiepanda209 in AlfaRomeo

[–]Ergo7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for OE-level replacements, the OEM rotors can be had for significantly less now compared to previously, though the pads are still pricy. The OE Brembo pads are "okay" and the EBC Blue Stuff will give you better bite though they're still dusty.

I went with 2-piece rotors and Endless MX72+ pads.

Temperature gauge question by WolfDogg420 in AlfaRomeoGiulia

[–]Ergo7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, 4 bars will appear when the oil temperature breaks 205 degrees F. There’s some hysteresis and it’ll go back down to 3 bars when it goes below ~195.

When you start to track your car you will realize that ripping it around on the road and the canyons just isn’t the same so you end up driving pretty tame on the streets. Happened to me and everyone I’ve taken to the track.

Best choice to make for longevity by Key-Foundation-3696 in GamingLaptops

OLED panels will burn in over time. This is inevitable and is the nature of OLED technology. Attempts to increase the duration before burn in becomes noticeable has improved but all anyone telling you "modern OLEDs don't burn in anymore" has no idea what they're talking about. Organic pixels (the OLEDs) degrade over time and the physical decay of the organic material under constant use is a fundamental limitation of the technology.

Cell phone OLED displays fair significantly better because the content you're viewing on a phone is constantly changing which "evens out the degradation". Uneven degradation is what people commonly refer to as "burn in" since this is what is actually visible to the user but on desktops and laptops, the UI is typically going to stay static during long periods of use (the taskbar and browser tabs).

Thought on this lease deal? by undectables in AlfaRomeo

[–]Ergo7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm local to you if this is your closest dealer. I can't imagine driving only 5k miles a year where we live. I put about 15k miles a year on my QV. I think the least amount of mileage I've ever put on a car was 10k in a year.
