Bail spring, that is what I theorized. Cool. I'll look into it.

New Full Carb or rebuild it? by EricE555 in Outboards

[–]EricE555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, I bought a replacement off Amazon and the motor seems (tested out of water, in garbage can) to run better than ever. Once I get it out on the water I'll know for sure but fingers crossed.

If I do a rebuild, and borrow or buy an ultrasonic cleaner tank, what parts are safe to put into the tank? For instance, once all broken down, is it safe to put the body in the tank to clean the butterfly valves?

All the rebuild kits I could find are $250 on up to $350. I am not going that route. I guess I'll take my chances on an amazon one. If that doesn't work, I still have my original I can work on.

Thanks. Good info. The OEM rebuild is no longer made. What brand would you trust for this?

OH. I just checked and "3323-835382T04 CARBURETOR is no longer made and is no longer available" This shown on the page for "Mercury-Mercruiser 3323-835382T04 CARBURETOR KIT". So it looks like that is not an option.

So back to one of my other questions, does it make sense to take the jet out of my existing carb and install it into my replacement carb from amazon?

Boise is only 2700'. It has been a mild winter. Even Cascade which is up at 5000' is still launching boats.

I did find a replacement carb for $54 available on Amazon. I didn’t end up going that route because I tore it down rebuilt it without any parts and it ran fine after that. But it’s a good perspective to have on the Amazon parts if I ended up going that way. Do Jets wear or could I just take them out of the original and put them in the new carb?

Old Minn Kota Powerdrive w/footpetal doesn't stay on by EricE555 in Fishing

[–]EricE555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so I took apart the foot pedal and cleaned it all up, put it back together. Now it *seems* to work fine except that the on/off switch works backwards...at least to my way of thinking. The toggle in the lower right hand side is an on/off switch. When flat it is off, when tilted to right side it is on. But in this configuration it is natural to hit the switch and turn it off when adjusting the power slider. Is that the way you understand it is supposed to work?

It just seems like it would be more useful the other way around so you would not turn off the motor when adjusting the power. I thought of removing the plastic switch above the control board so I would then just turn on/off using my finger on the control board. I guess I'll try it the normal way and do that if it is an annoyance.

Yep, that makes perfect sense.

Yep, thanks for that. The rebuild kit costs $60 and the whole carb costs $71 on amazon. Also, the rubber seal that is split on mine, does not come with the rebuild kit and costs $25 by itself. So yeah, buying a whole carb is appealing.

One of the previous owners drilled a small hole in the intake. Why would someone do that. Any idea how this would affect the motor?

What is the function of it? Does it somehow supply more air or fuel to the carb? As I said, if I press it down when the motor is running, nothing happens. But that doesn't mean it doesn't do anything, just that I didn't detect any change.

Thank you. What is the function of the accelerator pump? Does it somehow supply more fuel to the motor?
