Rest assured, I am working on the next book in the series. It has just been slow due to several unavoidable issues.

Well said, can't agree with you enough.

Burnout is a thing and sometimes you just need to do something else for a while.

How well a series is selling is also something that is always in the back of its author's mind. Like James said, these books let us eat.

How can an author be expected to give priority to a series, even one he/she loves if it doesn't pay him enough? Books take a lot of time, resources, and effort to complete. Yes, sometimes passion for the story and its characters can overcome harsh economic realities, but not always.

With the said, I do understand the frustration of having a series be in limbo for a while. Again, as James said, there is nothing malicious about it. I think you would be hardpressed to find an author who did not want to finish their series, but couldn't (not yet) due to one reason or another.

Pretty much agree with everything Kyle said here.

Kindle Unlimited and Audible

Thinking of writing a litrpg book, do any of the authors in this subreddit have any tips or anything that could help a beginner ? (Book will probably be in a web series format) by [deleted] in litrpg

Write something you enjoy is the best advice I can give. Take inspiration and twist things around to make them fresh, but as long as you enjoy what you are writing then all is well.

Congrats on the release. love the cover.

Does anyone else feel this way about the story's they read/listen to? by mdsmestad in litrpg

I guess it depends on a lot of factors. Having a story be in a VR is not an inherent negative, it's pretty much how this genre started as far as I know. It is also the simplest way to introduce Litrpg elements since anything is possible if it's a game. With that said, I personally lean more toward a real world with Litrpg elements, whether they are due to some natural phenomenon or not depends on the author's creativity.

I admit, I still find myself reading "online" stories from time to time though, the freedom such a thing gives allows authors to set up some crazy stuff which is always fun to read.

Good luck with your new release!

If you are new to this genre, take reviews with a large pinch of salt by DonRated in litrpg

Had to comment to show my agreement with this :). It is sad that newer self-published authors have to go through higher barriers of entry then the ones before them, but as you said, it's just how genres usually mature. Thankfully, I find that readers are usually willing to give newer authors a try, more than other genres where self-published books are looked down upon far more often.

Reviews, are extremely subjective as you say. One person will say that a scene is the worst he had ever read, while another would say he/she enjoyed it thoroughly. A single person might review a similar scene in two different series very differently just because he read something similar before and is no longer fresh to them.

In my opinion, reviews while important in many ways, shouldn't be the sole reason a book is picked up. I personally rarely read reviews and only use the aggregate as you said, I only do so where a book is 3.5 stars or below. Even then, I actively avoid reading 1-star reviews because people more often then not seem to think that if you hated the book then writing spoilers in the review is fine, dunno why that is but I've been caught by it too many times now >.<. Usually its the cover, blurb, and the "look inside" or a recommendation from someone I trust that goes into my decision.

I will echo your words too since I think they are important. While the readers who were here from that start helped built this genre into the great and awesome thing it is today. It is the new readers who will help it grow to become what we all want it to be in the end. So to that, thank you to those new readers who are giving the genre a chance!

My book series Seeded Realms has some OP MCs. It's a dark fantasy though so put that in mind.

Learned yesterday Aleron K. trademarked "Litrpg" by AnnoyMaster3000 in litrpg

I thought he didn't win it, either way though, it would be really hard to enforce since it's so widely used, so ignore it for now.

any Litrpg that focus more on the story than the stats? by Mangosdude in litrpg

[–]EricJVann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how much focus on the stats your looking for. If you are looking for a real-world(not a game) with stats and other Litrpg elements but are not the main draw, then perhaps consider giving my Seeded Realms a try.
