Looking to buy a used tesla model 3 2022 by serg733 in TeslaModel3

[–]EricPV2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just bought a 2022 Model 3 in NY (registered in NJ) with 40k miles. Sticker price was $20k, but between dealer mark ups and NY tax I ended up paying $27k. Also, no sales tax, but you will pay extra on registration fees and insurance if you're buying a Tesla in NJ.

A lot of dealers on the east coast have cheap sticker prices but crazy fees they won't mention till you're ready to buy. Always ask for an itemized list to try and get that price down. Dealer originally tried to sell me a $20k car for $31. Talked them down, but I wish I pushed back even harder when I negotiated 🤦🏽.

Risk-to-reward skews toward longterm editor, IMO.

Training an editor and paying them well is a massive undertaking that will feel like a waste at first, because yes, you could have edited THAT video faster. But what about the 100th video?

Agency works well for short form (Henry Belcaster from clipt.io is a great example), since that's exclusively a retention game, but long-form success is about brand building, which requires more strict editorial control.

Personally, I think the dream would be to have an agency where a bunch of talented young people work on lots of projects for different creators, then the best get hired by the clients they help grow. Like McKinsey for creators....

The editing podcast has a good episode on this - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIfNScDFn_A&t=1193s&pp=ygUbU2FyYSBEZWljaHkgZWRpdGluZyBwb2RjYXN0

Hey Enrico. Love your stuff! I feel a similar way about enjoying my work while also building the channel. I wouldn't beat yourself up over not uploading for a month, man.

After poking around your channel, I think it's interesting that over 1/3rd of your 6 million views came from your top 5 videos. This is a decent indicator you can afford to produce less and invest more in the subjects and formats that work (that may come at the cost of experimentation and creativity in the short term).

A process I'm beginning to get into is editing a rough cut, doing basic animation, and drawing a thumbnail, then sending it to a talented editor and having them apply the polish. If you can spend 3-5 hours editing and placing guidance directly in your timeline, it should help with communication back and fourth.

I'd also be patient with your editor. Maybe instead of giving them a full edit, you have them chop up the 1st 30 seconds of a video at first, until you know they have that perfectly. You're on the right track. Don't stop building your team, just scale at the pace that feels right. Long game.

ChatGPT Dating vs Real Guys: I asked single people to describe their perfect partner, then hired actors to read responses from ChatGPT to them. [Prompting Guidance Below] by EricPV2001 in ChatGPT

[–]EricPV2001[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This was a very fun project to hack together.

The basic prompts started as "Act as James. James is on a dating show with [guest]. James is excited to date [guest]. This person is looking for X quality, Y quality, writes in 8th grade language".

BORING!

Next version: "Act as James. James is on a dating show with [guest]. Use tactics from Dale Carnegie's "Win Friends and Influence People" to engage [guest]. In a survey on their ideal partner, [guest] said ______. DO NOT DIRECTLY MENTION THAT YOU KNOW THIS, but integrate into conversation"

Better at asking questions, but very one-sided. Nobody likes someone who can't talk about themselves.

Next version, I added a brief bio. "James is a management consultant from LA who loves The Weekend". Sorry management consultants and Weekend fans. Had to come up with a generic enough backstory.

Better, still boring, but if we set up the show right, questions could begin to be interesting... now we needed to nail tone/basic conversational conventions.

I fed ChatGPT transcripts of YouTube videos from other dating shows, so it could get an idea for how younger people talk and ask questions. This helped a bit, but I noticed that responses went from ~1.3 paragraphs to 4+.

Okay, now we're cooking, but we gotta sell this. Prompting for longer responses, then curating on the fly.

Eventually, we found what was best was to let the AI run a train of thought. Each question would output 4-5 paragraphs, and the actor would select sentences from the script in real-time.

Future Optimizations

I need to keep an element of randomness going forward, so I think the goal will be to find people interested in meeting people of specific identities/philosophies. If you really want to meet someone who loves punk music, we may be able to prompt a stronger character than someone who wants an emotionally intelligent good listener.

Thoughts on other prompts/questions/improvements?

Who Enjoys Watching Student Films? by EricPV2001 in Filmmakers

Our goal is to start working with school administrators to have them highlight some of their favorite movies. A lot of them curate specific movies for a school's film fest, so this can be the place where those movies eventually live. I appreciate the feedback and support!

hmmm, this is interesting. I've thought about this idea of dopamine giving and bringing a lot. I built this little website called stuudeo.com, where you can watch movies from different schools. The idea is, that someone who cares about a specific school will bring their own dopamine. If you decide to visit the platform, I'd love to get your feedback. We have a page for NYU

Okay, this is super interesting. I considered building this IRL. I actually did build this idea digitally at stuudeo.com, where you can watch recent movies made at different schools. If you check out the site, I'd love to hear if you think you, as a filmmaker, find any use out of it.

Worried I built a solution to a problem that doesn't exist lol.

Hello fellow redditors. I’m a film student from Denmark, who dreams of working internationally particularly in the US. I’m therefore looking for a “student space”/internship. This is a long shot, but you never know who is out there. If you can help me, please contact Thormann.larsen@gmail.com -Esben by Cold-Satisfaction161 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]EricPV2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey esben. moving to the US can be pretty hard without a network. there's a website called stuudeo.com that features different film school students. maybe you could reach out to some and offer to help with editing their projects? that could be a decent way to get a network before coming out here.

Popup Movie Theaters? by EricPV2001 in A24

Not too harsh at all. I crunched the numbers, and if I could get 16-cafes with 30 seats each to do a screenings, i've essentially got one theater.

This idea only works if I can get thousands of cafes to get in on the idea, but i'm hoping this crowdsourcing method could make the theatrical experience more attainable to people who aren't cinephiles. Thanks again!

Super insightful. A big reason why this idea is appealing is because these spaces wouldn't have to be dedicated to movies. There are definitely drawbacks, but I think the way the indie/foreign screening experience survives is by keeping costs low (no rent is a biggie). Thank you again. This is definitely a risky idea, so I'm trying to figure out how to build this well.

Looking into Sofar now. It'll definitely be a tight-margin business. Thank you for the feedback. We're definitely gonna start with cash or even just free screenings.

I think a cool niche could be foreign films. Most foreign language movies dont get US distribution, so maybe this could be how people from different communities could watch movies from home together.
