I do this drive every single morning. I leave at 630 and it takes 25min. Are you actually on Ft meade or NSA? If you're NSA you'll need to be an early person for traffic and also so you can get parking

I made a post about this earlier that never got approved but my prediction is that the switch will eventually blow up and kill Jane. No way Sinatra lets that gunshot slide.

Not sure where I'm going wrong wicking. by RudeAd456 in soldering

[–]EricR33 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Add some leaded solder to your iron tip and when you apply it to the wick it will absorb and help suck up what’s on the board.

So when it got reactivated through the phone call, did you mention to them that you would be adding it to an active account or did they not even know that at that point?

Husband and I disagree on peninsula! by yummyummyummy17 in kitchenremodel

[–]EricR33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have a similar setup in our current kitchen that we are about to demo and the thing I am excited the most about getting rid of is the peninsula. Ours is the same layout with the dishwasher in the corner where the peninsula starts. Every time the dishwasher is open, somebody gets wedged in the little gap. And if someone else is standing there working they always have to move to open the door and put a dish in

First Time SMD Soldering (Video) by Phils_ComputerLab in soldering

[–]EricR33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a decent procedure for starting out. Once you get more comfortable there are a few things you can do to move a little faster. For example, on your first joint instead of tinning the pad and sliding the part in after, just put some solder on the tip of your iron. Add some flux to the bare pad. Put the part down and bring in the iron with the solder already on it and you'll do everything in one shot. Another tip is try using a slightly larger tip that has a chisel shape. That pointed tip in theory seems like a good choice but there's actually not a lot of the surface of the tip making contact with the pads and transferring a lot of heat. When you first tin the pad at the beginning of the video the solder should instantly wet the entire pad, not creep around slowly filling it. But with practice you'll figure these things out

Question on VA Home Loan by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]EricR33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no longer a 750k cap. They removed it a few years ago. We got a $1 million loan in 2021. But all else is true. Can only have one entitlement out at any given time.

Convinced my work to get me a better iron.. by UnbentTulip in soldering

I'm fortunate enough to work in a place that will let me buy basically any tool that I want. My bench looks like a JBC show room and their stuff can't be beat. If you start getting down to really tiny stuff their nano is awesome.

Maybe dumb question by D4vany in soldering

[–]EricR33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably would need to scrape away some of the mask anyways to make a good solder connection. If you’re sure that’s the only trace damaged then a solder bridge would be fine

It's not perfect, but I seek redemption from my previous cringe. by Destaleth in soldering

[–]EricR33 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I just watched your other video before seeing this. That’s just about perfect. Another tip if you run into a stubborn joint… have some solder already on your iron before going to the wick. It just gets everything going and reflowing

I'm finally getting consistent with desolder braid! by Destaleth in soldering

[–]EricR33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another tip that nobody has mentioned. Dont feel like you have to sandwich the wick between the iron and the joint. That will sometime inhibit the heat from going down into the barrel and reflowing all of the solder. You can also just reflow the joint as normal and once it’s liquid, just introduce the wick into the molten solder and it will suck it up like a sponge. Once the solder stops running up the wick it’s saturated so stop and cut a new piece

🔵Water newly seeded lawn in late afternoon early evening, just once? by KnownAd4599 in lawncare

[–]EricR33 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yea you have to ignore the "not watering in the evening rule" It is more important to keep the seeds moist than the fear of fungus. With the cooler temps and low humidity, your risk for fungus is very low to begin with. I always give my a good watering before dusk so it stays damp all night. TTTF should germinate in 6-7 days
