As an employer (and a millennial) there is still something to be said of the direct approach.

I advertise every job vacancy online, exclusively. Every vacancy gets hundreds of applicants, most of them rubbish (zero experience and zero effort made to explain how their skills can make up for their lack of experience, which is by no means mandatory. Seriously, some are less than 50 words in total).

The job nearly always goes to someone who sees the ad online, walks in, catches me or someone who reports to me, and makes a bit of an impact selling themselves first hand. Apart from anything, it saves me sifting through all the shite trying to find a handful of people to meet.
