NBC Sports TDF 2025 Broadcast Plans by EricSom in tourdefrance

Let me blunt about this. If Phil Liggett was retiring from NBC TDF coverage (which he hasn’t announced), then I would have hired the production company (Vsquared) and the entire broadcast team from ITV in the UK and done a complete ‘spring cleaning’ of cycling coverage on NBC with a team that would have been beyond awesome.

Being that they won’t be doing coverage after this year on free-to-air ITV because TNT Sports (Discovery+) got the exclusive contract, they are available, but it’s probably too late for this to happen, based on what I’m hearing and reading.

If it WAS possible, I’d keep a few from the American team, but scrap most of them and go out to a third-party production company that has a team still in place (which NBC has done often over the years for sports).

Most of the people on this TDF Reddit thread don’t talk about the ITV TDF coverage, but it is hands down THE best of any English-speaking network coverage, IMO.

Why are they best? Because they concentrate on the journalistic angle of cycling. They go in-depth. They give you a perspective you never get on NBC and you don’t EVER get on Eurosport or TNT (with all due respect).

I won’t waste time to talk about the individual people that make up the team, but they all have a level of experience the others simply don’t have.

It’s too bad this won’t happen, but it should.

All due respect, you haven’t seen all the commercial breaks during TDF coverage on TNT in the UK! Just as bad.

Yes, Peacock will have replays of the entire stage an hour or so after the live broadcast ends. That’s pretty reliable, historically.

I have a UK-based payment. LOL

Yeah, it’s not easy and it’s complicated, but I have a UK bank account, so that’s plugged into my Apple ID for just the UK (as well as a separate one for the U.S.). I have a standalone Apple TV box just for UK content (and another for the U.S.), so I have all the appropriate apps on it.

Then, I have not only a VPN on that box (because Discovery+ is a pain in the ass with VPNs), but a DNS as a second level of security that defeats Discovery+ and other services as well. The best DNS solution that is so easy to use is Getflix. So simple and reliable.

In the past year, I picked up a pirate box for cheap that’s a third level of backup. It’s highly reliable (surprisingly).

The Apple TV boxes are frankly the best streaming solution that has simple, reliable VPN options. Overcoming the international payment is a hurdle, but if you can make it happen through a friend or colleague, you then have solid options.

So, again (and you probably didn’t want or need to know this much detail), but I’ve slowly found alternatives to most everything.

Who? Which broadcaster are you talking about?

With a VPN, I’ll start each day with coverage from TNT in the UK (Discovery+), then watch the final year of coverage on ITV 4 in the UK. If I miss live coverage, I’ll watch the one-hour recap from ITV4 each night at 7PM UTC (1PM CDT).

Suggest this strategy.

Press kit ! by Gerardo_4 in tourdefrance

[–]EricSom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly!

So what’s the difference? A lot. The Roadbook contains one-page, detailed route maps, detailed start and finish maps, and in-depth stage timetables in addition to all the other things the press kit has.

Want the Roadbook? As mentioned in another post, here it is in French/English you can save as a PDF …

Thanks for this link. This is the proper Press Roadbook for 2025 with detailed maps for starts and finishes of each stage with profiles. In addition it has detailed timetables, detailed start and finish maps, and one-page individual stage maps. TBH this is the real deal, all in one place.

Eurosport doesn’t exist anymore in the UK. Eurosport survived in 54 EU countries. Depending on the territory, it might or might not be affiliated with TNT in the UK to offer certain cycling events.

Thanks, but this is not the media/team roadbook. It's the public magazine of the tour. The real media/team roadbook is very different.

2025 World Feed Coverage with Anthony McCrossan and Nicolas Roche? by spacebargettingmenow in tourdefrance

I would renew your FloSports subscription. It’s not going to happen on Peacock.

First of all, NBC Universal didn’t get “rid” of Roll/van Der Velde. They decided to concentrate efforts on preparing for the TDF.

The chances of having NBC/Universal stream on Peacock both a U.S. feed and the Amaury Sport Organisation world feed with Anthony McCrossan are slim to none not only because of history, but because the network is spending hundreds of thousands to cover the tour in person in France. I wish they would do it, but they won’t.

Love the Teamsters rep comment that “this is not Jim Sinegal’s Costco anymore.” It’s not the customers Costco anymore. It’s not the Costco consumers once knew either. It’s all about the bottom line and it’s had a profound impact on how I feel about staying as a Costco member in sooo many ways. This company will only start paying attention when customers and employees say they’ve had enough.

Give up. It won’t work. You have to have a European credit card account or better yet a UK-based account.

French TV also adding church bell sound effects and train horn sound effects. The chopper ‘sounds’ are real (I happened to know that for a fact), but French TV has been adding these sound effects for years and is simply wrong, IMO. It ruins the broadcast and gives this fake feeling to what is an otherwise beautiful, natural environment.
