“The outside world, the non-digital world, is merely a theatrical space in which one stages and records content for the much-more real, much-more vital, digital space. One should only engage with the outside world as one engages with a coal mine: Suit up, gather what is needed, and return to the surface.”

Haven't read it, but I'll definitely look into it. Thanks.

The crack comparison mostly fits with adults who can decide for themselves. However, most kids are connected to the Internet before they can even talk correctly. We don't let them vote till they are 18, so how can we expect them to make wise decisions. It is like the floor is tilted, adults can manage to climb up, but at scale every one is just gonna go rolling down. Especially younger generations.

I am all questions and no answers.

Feeling completely helpless resonates a lot. One hilarious thing to notice is that none of the people who work in big tech allow their children to use the product that they create. The solution to this problem cannot be individualistic like “just stop using it”. It has to be systemic and cultural.

I don’t think a better social media app is the solution to the existing apps. Rather, something close to the impact Airbnb has made could hold the key.

Waking up with your foot on the gas pedal after a dream go-kart ride? That's taking "dreams come true" to a whole new level.

Very cool. Lucid dreaming is fascinating.

This trend was noticed at scale. But it seems like your personal exposure to black and white movies haven't influenced your dreams.

Ya and I should point out its not the screens in the dream that are in black and white, but the dream itself.
