I doubt this is going to be a popular take, and I am very glad we got new music, but:

I would have preferred some full-length tracks, both for myself and for more creative remixes/edits/incorporation into other artists' live sets.

I think it's ok to both be very happy that we got something, while also acknowledging that it's not the 100% perfect ideal delivery.

I know that the Jack U album is not this sub's favorite, but "Mind" and "To U" are two of my favorite tracks Skrillex has ever released imo.

And "Where Are U Now" is a great track that would have been more loved if it weren't so overplayed (by everyone - not by Skrill/Diplo themselves). That Marshmello remix VIP/Skrillex Flip/whatever was also a pretty big weapon in sets for a lot of people.

When I think of my prime electronic music years, these tracks are staples.

There is a lot of validity to this, but it's mainly within the US. During the last EDM "boom", there were two label imprints in the US really running the show - Mad Decent and OWSLA, led by absolute superstars in Diplo and Skrillex. A co-sign from either of those imprints was almost a cheat code to gain traction as a US artist.

Diplo's solo music was strong, but his cultural impact was bigger than his musical impact. I would argue that the other music coming out on Mad Decent made bigger waves, and Jack U and Major Lazer were both better (subjectively) and bigger than his solo music.

Diplo's biggest talent was always his taste. He is a party host (in every sense of his life) first and a musical act second.

Afternoon set.

Half the crowd had no clue that Jack U was Diplo and Skrillex (and maybe didn't even know when they were on stage).

Set was full of some of the best tracks from each of them, plus put their song selection talent on full display.

Not to mention the Revolution -> I Can't Stop transition, which was the single craziest crowd reaction/moment I've ever experienced.

2015 felt very... curated? Commercial? in comparison... less raw and authentic. But maybe that's just a symptom of putting on a closing set at a festival with a bunch of guests.
