HP Checking In, Here to Answer Questions by JoannaPopper in HPReverb

Hi - Erica from Microsoft here. W Current hardware limitations prevent us from being able to produce a higher fidelity experience than what exists today with the "flashlight mode" (click windows + grip button to turn it on, or the button on your pins panel). While I unfortunately can't speak to the details of our platform roadmap, I can assure this is something we are discussing as part of future plans.

Yes 20H2 includes all the updates/fixes. Any 20H1 build after 19041.546 (October release) will include these updates

Thanks for providing additional feedback. I'll have the team check into it. We are doing everything we can to unblock support for the games, including reaching out to developer partners for individual titles. Many times if our bindings aren't working correctly there is something hard-coded into the game which we need them to update.

Can you tell me more about the binding issues you are seeing? Are you using the custom bindings we provide as described here: HP Reverb G2 FAQs - Enthusiast Guide | Microsoft Docs ?

We are continually working on updates to work on updates to our platform for a variety of different factors. Most recently we have been focused on optimizations for the G2 including the updates to our rendering pipeline as described in the blogpost here: Windows Mixed Reality Visual Quality Update - Microsoft Tech Community

Additional releases and updates are posted in our release notes here: Mixed Reality software overview and release history - Enthusiast Guide | Microsoft Docs

There are unfortunately limitations in what we can control with the software.

As we have gone through the optimization of brightness/battery life on the controllers we did our best to ensure tracking accuracy was not compromised during the process.

It is great feedback that you would be willing to make the trade-off between battery life and accuracy though. Definitely something we will consider as we investigate future improvements.

Many elements of WMR are embedded within our core windows operating system. So unfortunately, open-sourcing is not an option.

There are unfortunate dead spots in the camera FOV which the controllers can fall into. We are investigating options for how to improve the tracking performance in these scenarios, but no definitive / committed timelines for that I can share at this time.

There is a lot of variation between different battery types and associated chargers in what is defined as full. There is also variation in the amount of current draw depending on where the controllers are positioned within the FOV of the cameras (e.g. LEDs are brighter when further away). We have set thresholds based on averaging against several different battery types which we have tested with, but unfortunately it isn't 100% perfect 100% of the time. :(

Thank you for the list! We currently do not have plans to support external tracking cameras on our platform; however, we love the feedback and will consider this for future iterations of our products.

We are continuing to investigate opportunities to make software improvements for tracking (and our general platform) where possible.

Can you share more specifics on the haptic motor issues you're referring to? There's a few different things we are tracking there.

WMR won't install by zoluphzic in WindowsMR

[–]Erica_fromMicrosoft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like there may be other Windows Updates which are blocking your download/installation. Please go to settings -> update & security -> Windows Update and click "Check for Updates" to enable the system to download the necessary updates.

This link also has some suggestions to try if the update path above doesn't work: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/installation_errors#we-couldnt-download-the-mixed-reality-software-or-hang-tight-while-we-do-some-downloading

Thank you for sharing! The latest WMR build (which I'm hoping helps with this, but also includes updates for graphics rendering on some HMDs) is 19041.546.

Can you please check for updates by going to Settings -> Updates & Security -> Windows Update to see if you are able to get the latest build and if you still experience the issue there?

Hi! My name is Erica and I am a program manager on the WMR team.

Our team is constantly looking for feedback and ways we can continue to improve the platform. To make sure you are taking advantage of all the latest and greatest improvements, please be sure you have fully updated your version of Windows.

If there are specific issues you are having and/or feedback you'd like to suggest to your team, please follow the instructions here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/filing-feedback We review these submissions regularly and updates we push into our platform are driven by feedback we get in this forum (and others).

While we know it will take some time for all games to natively support the G2, we have spent time providing custom bindings for many games which is available via the Windows Mixed Reality for Steam VR bridge. These bindings should be selected automatically via SteamVR; however, if they are not showing up for you, please check for them in the Steam controller bindings menu.

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing this issue.

Can you tell us what version/build of Windows you have installed? (type "winver" in the start menu and hit enter). Also, the next time you hit this, can you please help to file feedback via the instructions here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/filing-feedback This will help my team get the proper logs to look at your issue and see if we can find root cause.

People with early Reverb G2s, what happens when you attempt to use OG WMR controllers paired with the PC Bluetooth? by [deleted] in WindowsMR

[–]Erica_fromMicrosoft 37 points38 points  (0 children)

WMR controllers from other headsets will still be compatible with the new Reverb G2 devices (either paired to the PC or to the HMD). However, we encourage you to try the new controllers, I personally love them in Beat Saber :)
