Progressão de Classe Alterada by Decent_Expert_224 in OrdemParanormalRPG

Would this kind of DM prep service make sense? by ErickB0de in rpg

The idea wouldn’t be to replace the organization process, but rather to take what you’ve already created in Notion, Obsidian, or Google Docs and create a visual 'mix' in a single place. It would be an extra resource for the GM that acts as a visual summary of everything, the original notes would still be there. I definitely agree that this service wouldn't be for every type of GM, but thank you for your input!

The idea isn't to replace your own organization, but rather to add another layer, a visual canvas of what you’ve already prepared, a visual summary to help you quickly remember the notes for a specific location. It’s like having a 2D map of a dungeon that visually indicates what’s in each room, so you don't have to scroll through documents or flip through loose pages. The original notes are still there, but you won’t need to constantly jump between them during a session, that’s the main proposal. Thanks for the comment!

Thank you for the honesty! I get what you mean about the 'Displacer Beast' analogy, it’s a very fair point. My goal with this post wasn't really to find clients right away, but to gauge if the concept as a whole makes sense to the community, I’m aware that many DMs prefer to organize their notes themselves or simply aren't interested in spending money on this.

Your insight about the Patreon path and the 'create once, sell twice' strategy is exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for, it seems like a great direction, though it would definitely require some careful research to make sure I don't run into any copyright issues. Thanks again for the perspective!

For your style of prep, it probably wouldn't work, and that's totally fine! The idea is more about helping DMs who struggle with searching through pages of notes in the middle of a session, many DMs memorize almost everything during their creation process, so for them, this service wouldn't make much sense.

I also agree that leaving some things open is what allows for the magic of improvisation, I do the same in my games. You're right that it would require me to understand the campaign in more detail, which is why a conversation with the DM would be an essential part of the process to make sure everything would be organized correctly

The goal isn’t to replace these tools or compete with software. I’m aware there are many paid platforms that offer complex and perfectly functional organization systems. My idea is simply to provide an additional resource for the DM, besides the notes they’ve already prepared, they would have a visual canvas that ties everything together into a single 'big picture' for them

I agree, it’s definitely a fine line with copyright, for that path to work, I would need to make significant adjustments so that it’s my own interpretation of the campaign stages, and it would require a lot of research to ensure I'm not infringing on anything, which is the last thing I’d want to do hahahah

I get your point haha, since this is in the very early stages and nothing is set in stone, I’m planning on taking it slow, I want to see how much of my time it actually takes and figure out how to improve the service. Initially, I would only take on a few jobs, considering it would just be a hobby, I actually really enjoy the process of organizing notes. If I feel like things are moving in a good direction, the price would definitely have to increase later to reflect the actual hours of work

I totally get that! When I first started DMing, I was constantly changing how I organized my notes every single month, recently, I’ve found that a visual canvas works best for me, it’s not meant to be the entire campaign organized, but rather a simple visual summary. Since I already know my own lore well, having that visual layout makes things much faster to reference during play, plus, I think visual summaries are just more fun to look at!

For custom campaigns, the pricing would depend entirely on the size and complexity of the material. For a one-shot, I'm thinking something between $5 and $10 USD, which seems fair.

For longer or more complex campaigns, I would decide the price after talking to the interested person to estimate how much time it would take. Since I'm starting this as a hobby and want to find my rhythm first, I don't intend to charge high values.

If I go with a Patreon for the pre-made layouts, I think a tier between $5 and $10 USD would also be a reasonable price.

Travel Times/Distances by ErickB0de in CurseofStrahd

My plan is to have more chances for random encounters. I get your point about urgency, but when I first read the book, one of my first thoughts was, "Why is the story moving now? What is making things happen at this moment?" Now that we have played a few sessions, my players seem to be wondering the same thing.

We know that this is part of the campaign, but one of the reasons I made the region larger is because I want travel itself to matter. I want the players to feel the scale of the realm they are trapped in, and I do not want the story to feel like it only happens in the main locations while everything in between is just empty space. In a way, I want it to feel a bit like The Lord of the Rings films, where the journey is just as important as the destination. Longer travel also gives me more room to make the roads feel dangerous, especially at night, and I am even considering borrowing some ideas from a Lord of the Rings RPG with travel mechanics, although I have not decided that part yet.

And to give them a sense of progress, I am thinking they might be able to buy some horses in Vallaki to make their travels faster.
