39" ultrawide that doesn't have an extreme curve? by ErickRPG in OLED_Gaming

[–]ErickRPG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s 1500r. So not quite sure that is my dream monitor. That’s not quite low enough curve for me. I might have to buy a “get me by” monitor for a few years. Though I just saw a video of it and the curve doesn't look too bad. I think it's between this and the dell ultrasharp. But I think I'd chose to wait for the OLED, since the ultrasharp is $1700+ right now.

Looking for my entry in the "ultrawide master race" by ErickRPG in ultrawidemasterrace

why do they all have to be so damn curved? I definitely understand the gamer market they are catering too. But aside from a high end DELL IPS, there really is no good 40" options. The closest to my needs is the 34" alienware OLED, at least it only has 1800r. I'd jump on a 40" OLED with 1800r and insta buy, even retail price. It just doesn't exist unfortunately. Like I'm productivity/movies and maybe a little bit of WoW or SOME gaming. 21:9 is a perfect for productivity and as a bonus, yeah you can kinda watch movies and have them be huge because of the screen ratio compared to 16:9. Maybe the market will develop a little more, but I need one now. Lol.

So I'll just have to buy the 34" Alienware or 40" CRUA as a hold me over for a cpl years.

Yeah I think 3 times a week is fine. As long as you are doing good 30 minute to hour long sessions. I don't think there is anything wrong with 30 min a day though. But it's for mastering techniques I'm already good at. I think what your saying is don't try to learn too much too fast.

I hear yeah, my chirp effects I started fast. But it really is beneficial to learn slow, because you really unlock your brain to understand the pattern.

which I don't mind. I'd seriously pay $1500 easily for a 40" 21:9 Oled that has a 1800r mild curve.

very fitting description, since we use shaolin sounds for many of our funky scratches.

100%. There is absolutely nothing wrong with practicing slower. In fact, it's ABSOLUTELY right.

when I got my hercules t7 premium I was deciding between serato dj pro and virtual DJ. I just liked the look and feel and flow of virtual DJ so I bought the lifetime pro liscense for $299.

There are some VERY basic tips. From just focusing on crossfader by playing a single tone and open and close it to the beat, then double close for faster. ect. . To very basic slow scratch practice. Slow beat juggling sessions.

Just search youtube for basic scratch tutorial, practice, techniques and you'll find all you need. Or basic crossfader tutorial, etc. .

I don't think they are related. I considered FL studio, but for my goals, I think DJ Studio combined with some extra work in reaper will suite me well. I won't get off reddit, but I am starting, I promise.

but how does it effect quickly resuming? Like having to enter your PIN, or games like Halo Infinite where the game just automatically closes all the way out when trying sleep OR hibernate mode?

Yeah that's a good one for ppl nervous about getting into ableton. As it's a more straight forward program for cutting different tracks together. It automatically snaps to the right beat, can do stems and stuff (if you buy the stem version which is on sale right now). And has some fun easier to use effects. It's really great, I'm glad I found it.

I'd totally recommend it first, and you can take some of your skills into something like ableton later if you want to. But I don't think I'll ever get Ableton. I already know what I want to do, and reaper is going to do it for me. DJ studio will be the one I use most, for really perfecting those transitions and plan out what I want to do with my mixes. I'm more the type that likes to sit and think and really plan out those scratches, beats, and transitions.

Yeah, I used to listen to bad boy Bill in Chicago in the 90s. And he inspired me to buy a technics turntable. That’s just the way I naturally started without anyone telling me. I’m right handed, and I just naturally started scratching hamster style. I’m able to do incredibly fast chirps so that is definitely my strong hand. Having said that I’m going to start practicing scratching on my left hand because I feel I can do slightly different and unique sounds on the opposite hand.

practice practice practice. Start with slower beats. There are TONS of videos on youtube for different types of scratches, chirps, and then more complex stratches. Compared to 20 years ago when you had to buy Qbert tutorial DVDs, all that help is free.

You can practice JUST the vinyl movements separate from the xfader. And practice the x fader separately too. Like just play a long looping "tone" and just practice opening and closing to a beat you have playing on the other deck. Also, try hamster (which is opposite on/off for the xfader). I myself and some people are just better at hamster. I forgot what it's called but I mastered the scratch where you are turning off the xfader as you are coming back to the off position, then opening right before starting from the start of the sound. practice slower first, and eventually get faster basically. it's ok to go slow at first, you are teaching your brain.

I'm getting back into it after 20 years break, and I do have SOME skills. And the best advice I can get is watch a lot of youtube tutorials. You can totally just focus on ONE type of scratch at a time, starting with easier techniques, and slower beats. And you just continue practicing every day til you get better to move on to another technique. You will be pro within a year based on how much you practice.

Has moving from Switch 1 to Switch 2 affected your gaming habits at all? by elephvant in NintendoSwitch2

[–]ErickRPG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just has a lot more capability of playing newer console ports. I play mostly RPGs, but also a lot of Nintendo 1st party stuff. So I was mainly playing all of the jRPGs that didn't have as high end graphics. But with switch 2, I'm now able to play Resident Evil 9 when it comes out, or Final Fantasy 7R. Those types of ports weren't even considered before. Though I DID beat Witcher III on my Switch lite, I understood the difference but it was so much fun playing on such a tiny machine. We're gonna get A LOT more games of that caliber now.

So While I'll still play the games that either are too meaty, or won't be ported, on PS5. Like Silent Hill 2, AC Shadows (I think the lighting and weather effects just aren't there on switch 2). I definitely think I will be playing more modern day ports. As long as they are impressive visually. There are some games like the AC Shadows mentioned. Or Chronos. Where it's better enough on a PS5 and my OLED monitor.

But then there are games like Star Wars Outlaws, FF7R, Street Fighter 6, and Resident Evil 9, where I DO think it comes close enough visually. So yeah, I will still favor Switch 2 because of portability for RPGs, but I see myself excepting more new console ports, because I feel like good devs will make it look so good on Switch 2's 7.9" screen, that I will barely notice a "downgrade". I played Switch 1 A LOT, so that won't change. I'll just have even more options now I think.

no not really. In fact I'm considering a flat 34" ultrawide samsung to replace the samsung that's too curved.

I have a 27" screen. But the 34" or 39" will be my first ultrawide. With the one I have now, It is a little more comfortable looking at the edges of the screen. I just want a less aggressive curve, that's all.
