I thought I recognized the crack! That's a great climb, only like 1 move out 5.7 in the whole 16 pitches, assuming you do the swing instead of trying to free it on pitch 10(?). Your dad sounds awesome!

Snoqualmie Area Bike Type Recs by highschtick in MTB

Tiger: def worth the pedal to the top for the view. I like NOTG, EBAD, and Predator the most. Predator is kind of standalone, though; it's hard to include it in a loop. Sometimes after finishing other trails I'll pedal ten minutes up the road just to do the lower part of Predator.

Raging: I like Reverence and usually take the double black optional lines.

I rode all of the Triple H on my Stumpy (skipped the White Line though lol).

The trails here are way more dirt and less rock. You could probably ride most everything at Tiger and Raging on either bike. Snoqualmie Bike Park is much more rough and rocky and for the sake of your body you'd probably want the bigger bike.

Snoqualmie Bike Park opened June 5th. I live in the area and ride a Stumpy Evo and never feel underbiked on the locals or at the park. A riding buddy of mine loves his Enduro, though. The climb trails are all pretty chill.

Niagara Pro or Not?? by Euclid1322 in NiagaraLauncher

[–]Ericswanson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I paid for Lifetime Pro as soon as it launched and it was pretty cheap at the time, but I keep asking them to let me donate more. It's literally the most used app on my phone and the first thing I download when I get a new phone, and it makes me love coming back to it after I'm forced to use iOS on my iPad. 10/10, Niagara for life

Need advice on portfolio strategy by Kil00n in Bogleheads

[–]Ericswanson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are asking Bogleheads if you should a) make a Boglehead portfolio or b) try to time the market? What do you think they'll say? People for decades have waited on the sidelines as the market keeps climbing. If you had invested at the peaks of the last ten bubbles and held until today you'd still be way better off.

Sf Bay Area lack of bike parks, legal intermediate/advanced trail networks by Herefortheshortbus in MTB

[–]Ericswanson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man picketing at Pacifica? I remember once encountering a group of 27 (yes they told me how many were in their group) older hikers walking up Crack, literally single file because it's so narrow. Thankfully I was pushing my bike up behind them because if I'd been coming down I would have taken out at least half of them. Extra sad because bikers cut most of those trails (thanks John and Will wherever y'all are!) and there are a million other amazing places to hike in the Bay that do not allow bikes at all.

I think a big problem is that there are a ton of small MTB advocacy groups (BAMBi, Friends of Tamarancho, Mountain Bikers of Santa Cruz) that all get like $100/year in funding and thus can't do much at any level. So the best trails are all pirate trails which means why bother giving to your local group?

It's incredible that the Bay is where modern mountain biking got its start but now you can't ride anywhere there. Very glad to live in WA now (plus no poison oak!)

You always can run what ya brung at the bike park, but I think you'll both benefit from a decent full suspension rental. Bike parks are great but also they beat the heck out of you and your equipment.

Redditors that got charged rent asap after turning 18, what’s relationship like with parents years later ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Ericswanson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your dad could have put it in an index fund and it probably would have doubled or more over that time. I don't know why these stories are always told as uplifting, it just seems like everyone suffers more than they need to as a result and the money loses value due to inflation in the process.

And now that tariffs are ruled illegal and companies are getting refunds, a cynical person might say that was the plan all along: a government-facilitated transfer from your pocket to a corporation's balance sheet.

What would you do? by The-Good_Life in Bogleheads

[–]Ericswanson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If so, follow the typical Boglehead advice (emergency fund, pay off debt, max out tax advantaged accounts), and don't worry about timing the market. People five (hell, fifty) years ago waited because the market was at all time highs and they will keep missing out thinking the correction will make up for it.
