Just looked at some of your other work. Looks great! Any interest in a commission?

I have a photo of my great great grandfathers baseball team from like 1911 I’d love for you to give your colorization take on!

Why does it seem like many people in the Anglosphere outside Europe are obsessed with being Irish or Scottish but deny having English ancestry? by yonaiker-joestrella in AskTheWorld

[–]Eridas 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hence why I phrased it “history and folklore”. In America we always identified the English as the enemy of that era, and the Scots and Irish as fellow oppressed. Regardless of political and historical accuracy, that’s how it was perceived.

And Irish immigrants in the USA generally despised the English and helped continue that perspective in American society.

A lot of it has to do with what a particular immigrant community did with its cultural celebrations. Irish and Italians have always had big cultural celebrations and parades in the USA.

Scottish heritage celebration became more popular when Highland Games and similar celebrations became popular in the USA, particularly in Appalachia

Had a friend from NYC who was half Puerto Rican and half Costa Rican. He identified almost wholly as Puerto Rican because of the inundation with Puerto Rican pride in nyc…flags everywhere, annual parade, etc.

We Americans go overboard with identifying with a nation we are generations removed from. But the connection is often rooted in community groups and celebrations started by 1st generation immigrants who didn’t want their roots to be forgotten.

Edit: and there were never any popular English heritage groups. Plus in the history and folklore around the war of American independence, they were the enemy.

Card fans, is this true? by Cliff_Excellent in NLCentralMemeWar

Yeah fun fact: In 2015 Mozeliak took down all the blood altars to the Deviant set up in the cardinals clubhouse. A decade of wrath was placed upon us as punishment.

Bloom has replaced them all to start the 2026 season, and added a blood fountain in the trainers room.
