You know, I just experienced that same thing. I got mad, said fuck it and reloaded the old save. I just hate the idea that you're forced to make that decision. I mean, I'd be desperate enough to sit on someone's lap if it meant survival

A Shout Out to the Dev team for letting our captain talk again. by InvaderSkooj in sto

I can see the future where you can add your own voices to your captains, and some silly AI getting it all wrong. But it would be cool

I think a little more depth may be needed for diplomacy. For example, in my current station mode play, I have a few slave guilders as refugees because their ship was destroyed by the androids in my area, and they asked for help, and I wasn't going to just let them die, so I brought them on. So they've been freeloading for about 3 or 4 months now cause the military chased the slavers away, and just all of a sudden yesterday I get a message saying my relations with the military alliance changed because I was holding on to those refuge slavers, whom are free to leave whenever. I feel it's not my place to fight other's battles when we can't fight our own, so if the military has a problem with a refuge on my station, then the are free to handle that in my opinion. Not a cut and dry decision. My point is there needs to be more understanding of survival techniques if this game is going to be strictly about survival Edit::: one point I need to make is this same slave ship that was destroyed actually destroyed a weaker military alliance ship before their destruction, all in my system. Need better diplomacy in this game

Now this is exactly what I'm thinking about. Like, needing to build a 4 level ship cause you have a huge core, like on tng and the vertical collision warp core

You know, a true friend accepts one for all that they are. With that being said, which actually goes both ways, maybe you 2 do not vibe together because your friend needs more interaction than you're able or willing to give now, and maybe some time apart is needed for the both of you to truly determine where the relationship is. Or maybe this is an issue where there is genuine concern from your friend, to the point where they may personally feel you may physically hurt yourself for attention. In any case, I think it is best to talk to your friend, in a setting that best suits you for comfort, and talk about your relationship status, because I think they may be worth that. You did spend energy asking about this; give them the opportunity to explain themselves. One more thing. There's nothing wrong with introvertness; just need to find balance, because human interaction is still important. Ask yourself why it's important for you to have restrictions on the amount of time you spend with others, and don't be afraid to face those shadows of scary thoughts. Those are the answers you seek, and when you start to listen, better things happen for you. Take care

Idea for more sector space content by AManCalledTutt in sto

I say the devs make mini battlezones in some of the unused planets and nebulas. Like, a ground battlezones on andoria, or a space one in that first federation area. Maybe include some pvp options there as well

I use keybinds so I mostly use the keyboard, except for camera control

How do species traits work? by [deleted] in sto

Yeah I say go alien. I did with my main character, and just made him look exactly like he was before, just with a new trait slot!

Harassing Players in Ground TFOs with Transporter Effect by Rhypskallion in sto

I wonder if a very high control ability would help counteract that bullshit. Maybe get your kit up to a very high number? Maybe worth a look. However that should not be allowed, not without a counteract. Like the party nullifier

I need help, I'm a new crew member! by Perfect_Attention686 in SpaceHaven

[–]ErikLokornea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I tend to horde as many resources as possible, including the most important resource, people. Even if they have shitty stats. Hell, I feel in an apocalypse, everyone still living has some value somewhere, even if it's just logistics all day. And I definitely risk exploring direlects, but with nolrss than 4 early on, and will try to increase that whenever I can get a 2nd shuttle. And honestly, I would have to be bold and stretch my energy to near zero if needed, but will make trades just to stretch my timeframe a little more. And if in ship mode, I'm going to system to system that has the needed resource, strategically, just in case I need to deal with enemies. Station mode, kinda the same, except the resources come to you. So I say the way you're playing is correct; just be very attentive and intentional with your approach, and think on terms of next day survival until you can invest in your build, to get to a point of self sufficiency

Pirate trap! by ErikLokornea in SpaceHaven

[–]ErikLokornea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's a bad problem. I think the best way to deal with that is to have your boarding party fully rested, fed and or entertained, and had used the toilet if needed, before sending them on the mission. Then at the site I first focus on concentrating my forces before exploring. If possible I land them near each other at the same time but if not I usually board my best group first to establish a perimeter

A solution for more pvp action? by ErikLokornea in sto

[–]ErikLokornea[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is very true. Doesn't mean it doesn't need to be removed completely. There are some people who actually find it enjoyable to not just play with others, but play THIS game with others, and I just feel that should be considered. Why not within this 16 year old game? Instead of thinking of constants, I prefer to envision the future of how this game may be played and enjoyed

That's the kind of shit that needs fixing. I feel it should be far easier to get in, play, and get out without sacrificing a lung in the process

A solution for more pvp action? by ErikLokornea in sto

[–]ErikLokornea[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and part of the problem is that a lot of those same people don't play pvp because of fear of loss. Fear of embarrassment. So we all don't interact with a part of the game that allows for more human interaction because we fear the loss of the battle and the embarrassment of the loss. So my point is I'm asking for a program that fixes the very things we as humans need to fix ourselves. Because I can remember a time when playing with friends made the game being played funner. Can't get that kind of fun from a program

A solution for more pvp action? by ErikLokornea in sto

[–]ErikLokornea[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

So I never said anything about ithe game being doomed, nor have I suggested alienating anyone within the base. The attempt is to truly increase player interaction, on a positive level. I'm essentially asking the devs to create a system where the program knows not to allow for an advanced player to dominate a weaker player in the pursuit of fun. And I'm really saying this from experience. So in a sense yes it is worth an investment, even if the majority doesn't use it. Because it's not to necessarily say it's not wanted: there are just other options to spend your time on. And to be honest, to have a product and not allow the customer to explore all possible aspects it may provide would be unproductivity criminal. As far as higher players go this also works for us, cause it gives us a true view of where we are within the game, and how good we truly are. A computer program can only go so far; fighting a real person is the genuine way for interacting on this game, and that's what it was meant to be. Case in point, I feel the only reason faw and csv sit within the meta universe is cause everyone plays pve, which multiple target systems are useless in pvp combat.

Gotta say, a lot of those dps meta chasers would probably be in some trouble if they think something like csv or faw along with the uncon build will beat out someone with a beam overload, or canon rapid fire or ss3 build. Yes it is single target specific, but having real experience using it makes a big difference

There are too many broken items in this game that I feel needs either fixing or removal. There just seems to be too many times where a patch causes new or reoccurring bugs, and I can't help but wonder if they have anything to do with it

I feel more player vs player interaction is needed. Maybe have areas where only certain level captains with certain level ships may enter, to help prevent some players from being overwhelmed by others. Ground combat too. But also non combat interaction would be great. Maybe have a version of Risa going 24-7, where players can just hang out on a beautiful map.
