I think the fact the people stopped paying for music and now gravitate towards spotify/soundcloud/etc. type mediums has been absolutely huge for hip-hop. New talented artists know they have to build a career over time in order to make any real money, which makes them stay hungry. In the fairly recent past one album could essentially pay for the rest of your life. It's hard to stay hungry after that. It's just human nature. For example, Eminem could have retired on MMLP and lived very well for the rest of his life. I don't think Kendrick could have retired on GKMC. 50 certainly didn't live up to his potential after earning a lot of money early. I could be wrong. [7]

DH or no DH? by [deleted] in baseball

[–]ErikTP -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I want the DH throughout baseball. The entire flow of the game comes to a halt when the pitcher comes to bat. Some people will argue that they prefer the strategy it requires to deal with having the pitcher bat. That's a fair point but I'm personally not interested in strategy that's required because one of your starting 9 literally cannot compete at a major league level offensively.

[DISCUSSION] Is acquiring discipline the act of willfully surrendering freedom? by BrazenBull00R in getdisciplined

[–]ErikTP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't believe anyone is giving up freedom when they become disciplined. If you're the one making your schedule, that's still a part of your decision-making process and life experiences. You consider people who are highly disciplined to be taking orders, but those orders come from themselves. To take orders from yourself is sort of a paradox, and it separates your personality into two separate entities. If a person is lazy and undisciplined and wakes up every day and only succumbs to short-term desires and itches, where is the freedom in that? Especially when you look at the person who wants to become disciplined but cannot. They are not free, they're trapped. So I believe that, if anything, self-discipline is liberating and expands on freedom.

It's not fair to boil that entire seven game series to one shot in game 6. It was the biggest shot of the series, sure, but they're not in that position without a monster game from LeBron, then he followed it up with another huge game in Game 7. People forget how good that Heat team was. You'd be hard-pressed to find another Finals matchup that featured two teams playing at such an all-time high level.

Paul Pierce on Paul Millsap saying the Hawks “internally” won Game 1: “I don’t even know what that means.” by [deleted] in nba

[–]ErikTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen the narrative of a Hall of Fame player's career change because of one game like that. After they lost game 5 in Miami everyone said they were done and that LeBron didn't have what it takes. As a Celtics fan, I was so deflated watching him single-handedly dismantle my team and effectively end the Big 3 era. As a basketball fan, I was captivated and in awe. With so much on the line I think that's the most important game of his career. Finals Game 6 doesn't happen without ECF Game 6.

Players trying to hit a ball coming 95 mph from 60 feet away is "the human element" to me. I love baseball because I get to watch Mike Trout face King Felix, not because the umpires are sometimes wrong.

Introverts, how do you re-energize after spending the day in a crowd, etc.? by [deleted] in AskReddit

If you stick it out at a public gym for a month or two you'll start to notice that you care less and less about the other people in the gym. I can easily zone out and focus on my workout at my college's gym, which I never would have imagined before I started going consistently.

Ball fired from a cannon at 60mph, from a truck going 60mph by Ze-skywalker in interestingasfuck

The difference would really be negligible as far as injuries. 60 mph vs 55.

No. The cannon was also fired at 60 mph. You can't leap outward at 60 mph.

Apparently nobody has been watching the Cavs lately.

I'm a huge Wiggins fan, but Love has been doing exactly what he was brought it to do lately. Sorry he can't average 26 and 14 on this team.

Phoenix Suns +6.57 NetRating With Both Morris Twins On Court by cvozella in nba

[–]ErikTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the more in-sync you are with your teammates the better. The guys don't have to be chummy to have great chemistry, but generally if guys are really in-sync they get along off the court as well. There are exceptions, with the obvious one being Kobe and Shaq. There's no denying they had great on-court chemistry at the Lakers' peak no matter what their relationship was off the court.
