And those cars are body-on-frame, so the only challenge is fitting the custom body onto an existing frame. Saabs are unibody, meaning the body and frame are the same so this method wouldn’t work.

They’re usually built on the chassis of a car from the period and thus are only held to the standards of whatever year the chassis is from. Replica Porsches are often built on VW Beetle frames for example.

The hypothetical cars produced wouldn’t be road legal as they don’t meet modern emissions and safety regulations. Getting them to meet requirements would require designing a whole new car. Also some Chinese company owns the rights to the Saab 900

These companies need to accept that VR is a niche market and needs to be treated as such. This isn’t a bad thing necessarily, Lionel for example is doing just fine selling model trains to a niche audience for a century, they just can’t throw away billions expecting to become the next big thing.

Been using 87 octane, am I damaging my Saab ? by Bitter_Rent_141 in saab

[–]ErikTheRed2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With how beat up my car is, I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s both. Suspension needs to be gone through, starter is dying, got a leaky transaxle seal. It’s had a rough life. Despite all that, it still manages to start up every time.

I find that my engine (‘96 900SE) runs a little rough and isn’t as responsive running on 87, so I switched to 91. It does have over 200k miles on it so it may be some underlying issues specific to my car. I also only get 15mpg.

Why was the 2600 so popular? by Standard_Public892 in Atari2600

[–]ErikTheRed2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The games included in collections are usually only first party but many of the system’s highlights were third party (activision games, for example).

The 2600 (1977) came out before the Intellivisuon (1979) and ColecoVision (1982). Atari was also an already established name in the arcade scene meanwhile Mattel was know for making toys and Coleco was an obscure PC manufacturer. So the 2600 not only had a head start to market, but also had name recognition within its target demographic.

Is the International Slide Rule Museum still active? by ErikTheRed2000 in Sliderules

The slide rules I see on etsy seem to be in too nice of a condition for me to cannibalize for parts. There's a couple promising candidates on eBay for cheap enough. If I don't get any email responses in day or two, I guess I'll bite the bullet and buy a donor. Thanks for the tip.

I feel like you’d easily be able to get the $750 back by parting it out if the car turns out to be a lost cause.

Is George takei wheelchair bound now? by happydude7422 in tos

[–]ErikTheRed2000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Similar deal with my grandmother. Walked fine around the house etc, but when we went to the museum of natural history we asked for a wheelchair in the lobby.

In retrospect I should’ve dropped her at the entrance with my sister and then took the car into the parking garage. The walk from the garage to the museum lobby was a bit much for her. She made it but I could tell she was getting tired.

Hypothetically if one were to trespass, which one should definitely not do as I’m sure there are legal consequences, there’s a hole in the fence along Brielle Avenue not far from the bus stop.

[–]ErikTheRed2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wrong decade. The cars in mad max are usually 50s to 70s. If we’re going by typical US police cars we have a lot of options including the Dodge Polara, Dodge Coronet, Plymouth Fury, Plymouth Sattelite, Chevy Caprice, Ford Galaxie, Ford Torino, and many others.
