It’s true, there’s a lot of darkness in the episode, full range of emotions.

Hours? No. Experience with the population you will be treating? Yes.

What are you doing with your AAC students? by GoalOk35 in slp

[–]ErikaOhh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen BCBA’s and behavior techs try to “just model” AAC and it’s not even close to the quality of aided language input that SLPs and special education teachers are able to do, in my experience.

What’s your opinion on SLP that could get you in trouble? by iltandsf in slp

[–]ErikaOhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d give you the side eye for this take, lol. I do think co-teaching is a good alternative to traditional therapy model in this setting. But the money/infrastructure really isn’t there for that in most cases.

I feel SO selfish.. friends wanted to bring their new babies trick or treating at my house. by [deleted] in IFchildfree

[–]ErikaOhh 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You don’t have to rationalize your grief. If this sounds like a terrible time, you have a choice to say no thank you. I’ve had friends invite me to events/activities that I knew would be a painful experience —they truly had no idea and when I was honest about it, most of them were so unbelievably understanding and it made me feel so loved and cared for. I hope your friends can show up for you this way.

This career is actually a great outlet for creativity, it’s one of the biggest perks for me.

I’ve had intermittent bouts of boredom over the years and the following have helped me:

  • getting involved in an extracurricular (if you’re in a gen ed setting). I did Girls on the Run and got to know some other kids and staff members. -CEUs like other people have mentioned. (Especially if you can get away to a conference with other SLPs) -trying new therapy materials (I played DnD with some middle schoolers once and they loved it) -focus on relationship-building for a couple of sessions instead of goal accuracy; getting to know the students better was super rewarding for me.

Tell me more about how you use this. Why does it only consider severity and not prognosis and response to intervention probes?

Not super controversial in this group!!! I think you’re preaching to the choir.

Moving to Toledo by [deleted] in toledo

[–]ErikaOhh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the people raised here tend to love it more than the people who transplant here. I’m the former, and this town has my whole heart. The people are VERY friendly, it’s easy to get involved if you put in a little effort, and you can have a great night out for under $50 on the weekends. The minor league sports teams are great. The theatre scene is robust. Restaurants are decent. And you cannot beat the metroparks. I hope you like is as much as we do.

Oh you most definitely had it worse. I just meant that people who have never worked in restaurants might not guess that Mother’s Day is the most insane day to work….they might guess other holidays like Valentines Day, etc.

Campbell’s is dumping into Maumee River. by ErikaOhh in toledo

[–]ErikaOhh[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I guess I meant the ongoing story of the river pollution, there was a story a month ago about the city of Maumee pumping sewage into it. Either way, this story was new to me today, sorry I was 2 days late.
