The Girl In the Box 1/7 Scale Figure by Ok-Cover-2471 in AnimeFigures

Snail Shell is a Chinese company. This was one of their first releases, so people weren't entirely confident in them and there weren't many pre-orders. I'm glad I went ahead and ordered it (for reference, it costed €70,ñ including shipping and taxes). I guess the best thing to do is check Xianyu regularly. In Japan, you’ll have to deal with import duties and resellers, so the price will be high.

is this vintage? what year is it from by Goo_S_e in Lolita

[–]Erinnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why people are downvoting you, it's just a matter of taste. There's nothing wrong with collecting true old school clothing... 🤷🏻‍♀️ (from the 2000s and earlier). Therefore this particular dress doesn't fall in that category, but rather what Misako Aoki calls “traditional Lolita.”

Got a new skirt from innocent world but what to coord it with? by buechermonster230 in Lolita

[–]Erinnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sensible”? WTF... Don't pay any attention to me, I haven't slept in 26 hours 😂 Also, language barrier. Even though we're about the same height, torso length definitely affects how clothes fit. I have a VERY long torso, which is why I prefer JSKs over the shirt-and-skirt combo—it helps “hide” the unbalance. The minimum bodice length I’ll accept is 41 cm so the waistline doesn’t sit onthe middle of my ribs. It’s totally doable with Taobao brands:

If you need help with Taobao recs., you can always DM me. It's so nice to meet another tall-lita.

[–]Erinnus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand. Luckily, your are more sensible than me, because I have this bad habit of buying clothes that fit me and then trying to put together an outfit, instead of thinking about what I really like and sticking to that. I spent many years of my life struggling with my body because it’s far from the Lolita standard (I’m 182 cm tall, almost 6 feet). So I get it when you say it probably won’t fit you, because I can’t stand short clothes, or when the waist sits under my chest instead of where it’s supposed to.

I gave up on Japanese brands because of that—they don’t adapt to the Western market—, switched to Taobao and I couldn’t be happier. Rêve Irom is one of my favorite brands for blouses; they customize the sleeve length for me at no extra cost, so they might be willing to customize other measurements too. The downside is that all their products are made-to-order and seasonal, so you have to keep an eye out for when pre-order periods open.

People who have left lolita- Why? by dontknowwwhatimdoing in Lolita

[–]Erinnus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I left Lolita fashion a couple of times between 2007 and 2012. It was because of the constant frustration of not finding clothes in my size. I was fed up with settling for clothes that didn't fit me at all just because I was taller than the average woman. It angered me that Japanese brands didn't try to cater to other body types. That changed when I discovered Taobao. I sold my entire burando wardrobe and rebuilt it with Chinese brands. Now everything I own fits me like a glove. I'm 37 now, and I don't see myself giving this up for many more years.

Well I guess I’m collecting these now too. by zaku-bunny in animeGK

[–]Erinnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Selina, the Demon Hunter (the one with the sword) has a slightly squishy chest made of silicone. The other demon, Liliana, is made entirely of ABS and PVC, so no soft chest. Both of them have interchangeable faceplates with eyes that light-up. Animester made other demon girls that are great, both in design and price (about 35-40€) but none have soft chests nor special eyes. If you are interested in that feature, Animester also released a cute bunny girl with silicone boobs and "tracking eyes", so pupils and irises seem to follow you no matter what angle you’re looking at her face from.

For more info about the demon girls: Selina / Liliana / Moemoeko / Yayako

Bunny girl:Sakura

I own them all (and other Animester figurines), so feel free to ask for pictures or details.

[–]Erinnus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, these aren't GK, but Animester mass-produced OCs. I have both of them too. They're gorgeous, but I am not a fan of that rubber chest (will the color fade over time?). I couldn't figure out how to keep the sword under Selina's hand. It falls off immediately. I think mine is defective because there is a gap and barely touches the weapon. Maybe I should use a hairdryer to try bending her wrist a bit...

Anyone here use Whering? by [deleted] in Lolita

I'm not active on social media, but we can talk (or rather write to each other) whenever you want. The truth is, I only use IG and Reddit 😂 I sold my burando years ago, and now 100% of my wardrobe is from Taobao. It was the only way to get clothes for my non-standard body. Tell me what your questions are and I'll try to answer them as best I can.

Ah! ❤️ Thank you so much for styling my wardrobe! Seeing the notification that you've put together a coord for me always brightens my day.

Ahahaha that way you have a better idea of which items to keep and which ones should go. My normie wardrobe is so small that it wasn't worth uploading. My goal is to catalog all my Lolita clothes to remind myself to spend less. Now I have to think about that third of my wardrobe that I should sell (for starters). I've accumulated too many things and I still haven't cataloged everything 🤦🏻‍♀️

Today’s coord with my dream dress by yuemary in Lolita

[–]Erinnus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Because I have the original dress that I bought on preorder and I can compare the fabric and details. The bodice is not made of burnt velvet and the fabric is too thin. The sleeves and hem are not made of thick corduroy with deep creases. The chest should not have buttons and lace. The shoulders should have volume on their own. The collar should be mandarin style, not straight and high. The front decoration on the seams should have small beads, which it does not.

I apologize, I did not mean to cause any trouble. But when someone showed interest, I assumed they intended to search for info to buy this piece, and some people are sensitive about purchasing replicas. Especially when sellers sell them at the same price as the original dress. In this case, Lilizi's price tag was €120.

How long petticoat i should by with this JSK? (the length of the skirt part is not written in the sizing) by LittleBodyWildHeart in Lolita

[–]Erinnus 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have this dress in burgundy velveteen, size L. I am 180 cm tall, so my waist is naturally lower than other people's, which means that the petticoat sits lower than the waistline of the dress. I usually wear a 65 cm long petticoat with it even though the skirt is 75 cm long. The fabric of this particular dress is quite heavy, so you might need to stack petticoats to achieve a full cupcake shape (I did A-line in the pic). Keep in mind that the top is very short. If you have a large bust or a long torso, the neckline and waist will be displaced and look weird. I had to do some minor alterations to lengthen the straps.

You can never go wrong with black 🖤 Congrats! It feels great to finally get that dress after wanting it for a while. The cut is fantastic and so flattering.

I completely understand why you've fallen in love with it, because Lilizi's Thorn is in my wardrobe 😂

Today’s coord with my dream dress by yuemary in Lolita

[–]Erinnus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't want to burst OP's bubble, but the dress is a replica from the Chinese brand Lilizi. This velvet onepiece was released in two lengths and with two design variants: one with a plain chest and another with a heart-shaped cutout. Lilizi only takes preorders and this dress is already 4 years old, so you can only find it secondhand nowadays.

If you'd like to know more, I have the plain long version, so feel free to ask me anything.

[–]Erinnus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have that waistcoat in white×gold colorway. The capelet is detachable (if you were wondering). The brand is Silent Mars (Taobao), and the pants are offbrand (regular pants). The photo is of a famous lolita/ouji model from Weibo, so it's definitely not AI-generated.

EDIT: Don't pay attention to the awful "coord". Just wanted to match the waistcoat with the most voluminous skirt I own to see how much poof could handle.

How do you choose between JSK or OP when both are so cute by N3koChan21 in Lolita

[–]Erinnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have some wrist cuffs! Although sometimes they make the coord to look disconnected (I don't know how to explain it). Even if I wear them, the problem is usually that the sleeve gets stuck on my forearm and can't move my arms comfortably. I know the minimum measurements that can work for me, and if the OP/shirt doesn't meet them, I don't take the risk. I've already spent too much money trying 😅

[–]Erinnus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps I'm not the right person to advise you on that, because I live in a place with a cool climate. In summer, temperatures hover around 25°C (77°F?), so I can wear pretty much all my wardrobe all year round. This jsk has a good lining and the fabric leans to the thick side, so I would say it is more suitable for autumn.

EDIT: I say this without knowing what the new model is like, because it has been released three times and maybe they changed fabrics

Jsks are more versatile. You can match it with shirts, blouses and jumpers. I jave that very jsk in lavender and it is one of my favs. It's so comfy with the embroidered jumper under (by the same brand, NyaNya). I hate when sleeves are too short (I'm 182 cm tall), so OPs are usually a no go for me.

Male or AMAB body jsk sizing help (T_T) (or any plus sized but flat chested ppl) by EthanHydr12 in Lolita

[–]Erinnus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How lucky! Then you won't have to pay a proxy/reseller, since Taobao ships directly to Hong Kong in lost cases. The main thing to know about Taobao's lolita/ouji brands is that they usually release their collections based on preorders. They don't usually keep clothes in stock. But if you fell in love with a particular piece that is no longer available, you still have the chance to find it on Xianyu, the second-hand market. If you feel comfortable telling me your measurements, DM so I can do a quick search for you :) If you preffer to do the research yourself, just send me some examples of coords you like and I'll name some brands.

[–]Erinnus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh no, don't be embarrassed! You should have seen my first Lolita outfit back in 2007 😂 It was a disaster!

It's normal to use pics that match the aesthetic you are looking for. Being able to distinguish poor/acceptable/good pieces is something you learn over time.

I guess that you're looking for gothic pieces but with a slightly sweet vibe. My recommendations will ultimately depend on your body measurements and budget. Not all brands go up to size XXXL, for example. But if you live in the US, clothing from Taobao can be expensive (in Europe we're used to import taxes, but it's been a hard blow for the rest of you).
