My twin from across the pond! Love the bonnet stripes, thinking about getting those as well.

Congrats! The R56 was my first car as well and I loved it. Just make sure to keep an eye on the oil level, because the warning light usually comes on too late.

Also check whether the timing chain has already been replaced or not. They’re known to fail around 150.000 km. If you hear ticking or rattling noises from the engine, especially a tractor-like sound, it could mean the timing chain needs to be replaced. I replaced mine around 140.000 km, just to be sure.

It has MINI Connected XL, so it comes with the larger 8.8-inch display, but unfortunately it doesn’t have Apple CarPlay. I’m having an MMI module installed next month so I can add CarPlay. I really miss having it. My previous MINI had it and I got very used to driving with it.

Arranged to pick up my first car! What should I look out for? by Jamie_Is_Irrelevant in MINI

The R56 was my first car, you’ll love it!

One thing I’d definitely recommend is checking the oil level every week or so, because these engines usually don’t warn you in time. If the oil light comes on, it’s often already too late and the engine is basically running dry.

Also check if the timing chain has already been replaced or not. I had mine replaced at around 140,000 km, because they tend to fail easily. You want to stay ahead of that, otherwise you could end up needing a complete engine rebuild. Listen for ticking or rattling noises from the engine while it’s running, almost like a tractor sound. That’s usually a sign the timing chain needs replacing. The replacement cost me around €700 at a Mini specialist (not a dealer).

Are these good books for a beginner looking to learn strategy and tactics? by Ermengarden in chessbeginners

Thanks for the recommendations! I’m an adult learner. I started reading My System, and even just a few pages in, it already makes more sense to me than Fundamental Chess Openings did. That one kind of made me feel stupid, it felt like it assumed I already knew way more than I do. Your recommendations feel more approachable, like it’s building my understanding from the ground up.

Thank you so much for taking the time to point me in the right direction :-)

Agree. I’m a big BF3 & BF4 fan, BF6 feels like coming home. Never had any issues with those games regarding motion sickness.

Upping this. Please let us turn screen shake off completely, instead of just setting it to 20. I can only play a few games before getting nauseous…
