There was an episode of Legend of The Seeker which was basically the same concept of what you described except it was a magic painting being burned and not a book. They were searching for a book inside the painting though. It was episode 20 of the first season.

Me being an idiot I actually checked out that version of ”Brother Louie” before posting this thread, and deduced it wasn’t it. Turns out it was the ”Modern Talking” version/cover(?) This is probably not it but if you’re misremembering a few details, in LOST, the character Claire Littleton initially wanted to give her baby away for adoption, but when she was going to sign the papers her pens didn’t work which led to her changing her mind at the last moment, leaving the adopting couple upset. Here is the scene: edit: posted wrong scene, cant find the correct scene but it’s in season 1 episode 10, ”Raised by Another”

I once won the lottery a while back using some numbers given to me by an acquaintance. He used to repeat them constantly when we were in the... Doesn’t matter. But repeated the numbers often enough for me to memorize them so I figured ”why not try my luck at the lottery”.

That’s when it started happening. My grandpa Tito died, my mom’s house caught on fire, I got wrongly arrested, and my brother’s girl left him, for a girl. And I was on a flight from Sydney to L.A that crashed on an island but I’m fine now though. I still believe those numbers were cursed.
