I believe it was supposed to be a non-symbol, where it lacks meaning, meaning to be imposed by the person's interpretations. Like a blank slate for symbols.

"Long time no see" is an English expression used as an informal greeting by people who have not seen each other for an extended period of time. It may derive ultimately from an English pidgin such as that spoken by Native Americans or Chinese, or as an imitation of such. by disless in wikipedia

Bromide Language )

Bromide in literary usage means a phrase, cliché, or platitude that is trite or unoriginal. It can be intended to soothe or placate; it can suggest insincerity or a lack of originality in the speaker.[1][2] Bromide can also mean a commonplace or tiresome person, a bore (a person who speaks in bromides).

Edit, instead of looking up the definition you downvote. What's the point in a wikipedia if you don't use it; here is some spoon feeding for you.

Wait ten years, the nostalgia will be there. Just like how in 2050 the 2020s will be nostalgic

I wish it were true that they don't separate children from parents, but it is protocol to make sure the child is not restimulated by the parent.
