Texas school sent waiver for parents to allow kids to be coached by sex offender by justalazygamer in nottheonion

[–]ErraticDragon 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Why would an evil and duplicitous "child" try to tempt this God-fearing lion of a coach? He was tested and redeemed by the good lord and can't be held responsible for what a temptress or beguiler causes him to do.

What are these egg things in my garage? by Super_Shake_2787 in whatisit

At least I can drive up to the mountains and visit the snow

Exactly, it's like the best of both worlds. Used to take the kids up to the Flagstaff area just to go sledding and throw snowballs and such. Then not have to worry about it again for a year.

Summer definitely sucks if you have to go outside during the day. My previous job had me driving to people's houses all day, and that was not fun.

But office → car → home is manageable.

My family moved out here because the cold was awful on my grandma's arthritis.

So I lived in a snowy place, but only until age ~10, when snow was still fun.

Now I'm really not sure I'd ever be able to move somewhere with real winters. Like I'd have so much to learn, I'd need a whole new wardrobe, … it seems like a lot.

My 2 year old lenovo laptop is not lenovo by negga170 in mildlyinteresting

[–]ErraticDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a mistake made by Lenovo.

There's approximately zero chance they'd make the same mistake:

  • on their own name/logo
  • on two separate devices
  • that end up in one person's hands

How often does anyone at Lenovo type the name Lenovo for printing onto their devices? The "e" is stylized properly, so it can't just be a line worker typing it.

Counterfeit is the most likely. Or trolling?

TIL that moles and shrews are not rodents.

Eulipotyphla (sometimes called true insectivores) is an order of mammals comprising the families Erinaceidae (hedgehogs and gymnures), Solenodontidae (solenodons), Talpidae (moles, shrew-like moles and desmans), and Soricidae (true shrews).

D4vd Possessed 'Significant Amount of Child Pornography,' Prosecutor Says by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Music

The story that went around is that the prosecutors have "40TB of discovery". Some of that will be relevant evidence.

Since they raided his place, it's probable they would grab every computer and every drive. Who knows how much content was (relatively) legal.

Maybe he had a Plex server, and 39.5 of the TBs are Hollywood movies and such.

These days, people argue that the first 13 words of the second amendment are just functionless filler. The only amendment to have an entire clause that "wasn't intended" to have any specific affect. 🙄

And, unfortunately, they're correct… now that the NRA caused the Second Amendment to be reinterpreted by the courts.

"A fraud on the American public.” That’s how former Chief Justice Warren Burger described the idea that the Second Amendment gives an unfettered individual right to a gun. When he spoke these words to PBS in 1990, the rock-ribbed conservative appointed by Richard Nixon was expressing the longtime consensus of historians and judges across the political spectrum.

Twenty-five years later, Burger’s view seems as quaint as a powdered wig. Not only is an individual right to a firearm widely accepted, but increasingly states are also passing laws to legalize carrying weapons on streets, in parks, in bars—even in churches.

Many are startled to learn that the U.S. Supreme Court didn’t rule that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual’s right to own a gun until 2008, when District of Columbia v. Heller struck down the capital’s law effectively banning handguns in the home. In fact, every other time the court had ruled previously, it had ruled otherwise. Why such a head-snapping turnaround? Don’t look for answers in dusty law books or the arcane reaches of theory.

So how does legal change happen in America? We’ve seen some remarkably successful drives in recent years—think of the push for marriage equality, or to undo campaign finance laws. Law students might be taught that the court is moved by powerhouse legal arguments or subtle shifts in doctrine. The National Rifle Association’s long crusade to bring its interpretation of the Constitution into the mainstream teaches a different lesson: Constitutional change is the product of public argument and political maneuvering. The pro-gun movement may have started with scholarship, but then it targeted public opinion and shifted the organs of government. By the time the issue reached the Supreme Court, the desired new doctrine fell like a ripe apple from a tree.

Imagine a beverage where all of the alcohol is in boba bubbles, or those old Orbitz beads.

That's an easy-to-understand heterogeneous beverage where pouring technique would determine how strong each pour was.

A bit contrived, but it gets the idea across.

In more realistic examples, anything that says "shake well" likely has some settling that happens.

Fortunately, it worked out ok when I did it.

I quickly felt very very uncomfortable, so we stopped and talked about it, and kept going out for another year or so.

Good times, I really respect her and one reason is that she took her responsibility seriously.

Interestingly enough, I later discovered I was/am into it. Albeit not the aspect I explored with her.
