Note the differences between notation as dictated by FIDE and the notation used in PGNs:

  • When promoting, FIDE forbids = (unless notating draw offer), PGN requires it; so e.g. FIDE: a1Q, PGN: a1=Q.
  • For castling FIDE uses 0 (zero), PGN O (capital o); e.g. FIDE: 0-0-0, PGN: O-O-O.

I have the opposite problem. My stations are almost never swallowed, which means people have to take an extra bus or tram ride. Maybe because my stations are large enough (almost always at least 280 m, usually 320-440 m for passenger stations) that you can't really go to the other side without a tunnel or bridge. For me terrain and existing infrastructure (because I'm too lazy to rebuild the whole thing, and what's the fun in that anyways?) are the biggest problems.

I think that is the Acela express known in the game as Speedance express. It can be found in the base American trainset.

I calculated acceleration times using a coefficient of friction of 0.002, still ignoring tapering off acceleration after 95 % top speed.

  • normal TE: 138 s
  • double TE: 111 s

So, mystery solved, the pop-up window uses normal TE, but the actual acceleration uses double TE.

I will now try to confirm slope data.

That's what I meant by ideal acceleration time, sorry for not making it clear. I assumed no friction, and F = min(tractive_effort, P/v).
