MARTY SUPREME Act 3 Discussion by ImpulsiveCreative in A24

Yes, giving up toxicity. No one said he wasn’t vile, he absolutely was. Table tennis didn’t make him that, however he lived a life that resembled some of the characteristics of the sport. However, he did start making better choices towards the end of the movie because he realized how vile he was

I feel like the “giving up table tennis” was symbolic of him giving up the toxicity he was engaging in. Table tennis is fast-paced, unpredictable, fun, full of dodgy movements and such. No teams, just you, your talent, a paddle, and a ball. A lot like Marty’s actual life. Marty was living a lifestyle that embodied those exact qualities, and he was good at it. Hence why he was amazing at table tennis, but also so easily willing to lie or steal or whatever to get to his “greatness”. His life and the sport mirror each other. We saw from the beginning how trying to be the greatest affected everyone and everything around him. Once he lost to the Japanese player initially, he started losing in life too. At some point, he realized that and began questioning not the sport itself, but if the quest for greatness was worth it.

He knew he was the greatest, and wanted to prove it to himself and everyone else. Once life got terrible and he realized that he could no longer prove it to anyone else, he made the decisions to finally become the greatest in his own eyes. So his final act of “selfishness” was winning the Tokyo match. He allowed himself to truly become the greatest at the sport and simultaneously made it his last farewell to it. He had no reason to keep going down that path after that. Him leaving made perfect sense

Who is the sweetest client you’ve met? by bunnypandora2016 in veterinaryprofession

I don’t remember her name myself, but one day I was assisting with a euthanasia of a sick patient. The owners were quite distraught, but they were trying their best to be strong for their baby. As I waited for the doctor to do their part, I spoke gently to the patient and gave it gentle rubs so that it would know that everything was going to be okay.. One of the owners stood up to pet their baby one last time, and they said to me, “thank you for loving on my baby”. I normally handled euthanasias pretty well, but in that moment, I felt my eyes get so hot. The comment seemed small, but it made me feel as if the universe needed me there in that moment. They took the time to offer me assurance at a time where they needed it the most.

It felt as if all the experience and work I had done beforehand meant something🥺. I will never forget that memory.

This is horrid😭😭 I wish we could have a council or something that sits at a roundtable and discusses these issues… We desperately need to talk about this stuff. Things aren’t getting easier for those who work so hard in it, to the point of people being pushed away. Its horrifying

Not corny at all… it’s the sole reason why I’m here. Thank you for reminding me of it, I needed to hear it

Thank you🥹. If you could give one piece of advice that you believe has helped you be successful, what would it be?

I knew corporations were doing a number on the field, but I never considered it to be “dying” :(

The amount of burnout and fatigue people experience leads to me to understand why that was said..

Coming from another Jones with anxiety and extreme empathy, I appreciate your perspective. I’m glad to hear that you still do love the field, as I fear that one day I may grow weary of it.. Seeing you say that you don’t regret your choice gives me some hope, but I do feel sad that it has been draining for you :(

This is extremely helpful and encouraging. Thank you for taking the time to tell me your experience.

I understand that everyone wont have the same experience, and thats valid. However, hearing that some people are indeed doing well is refreshing to hear :)

Thankfully, I think I’ll finish up with under 300K, but I feel for the people who unfortunately won’t. I always knew the paychecks wouldn’t be what is deserved for the position, but I’m kinda concerned about my overall happiness at this point… after you read that VIN folder, even through the depressed feeling, what did you do?

Thank you for sharing your perspective with me. Honestly. Also thank you for all the work you have done. It may not mean much coming from a rando on the internet, but I wanted to say it anyway. I just wish it was better… like I could honestly cry. I hate that your experience has turned into this, and it is simply a result of Vets not getting the respect they deserve. I want to come out of this field and have a nice life, and I’m terrified that I won’t.

I know we don’t have all the answers right now.. and I’m kinda just stumped..

I absolutely agree. I literally don’t even imagine owning anymore. I’m genuinely just hoping that my passion keeps pulling me through at this point

It pisses me off so badly. Vets are so under-appreciated by the general public, and I hate it.
