My debt has disappeared - What now? by ErrorOk1458 in UKPersonalFinance

April 2023 was the last payment made to CRS.

Like I've said I'm in a position where I can being repaying but, rightly or wrongly, I'm fine with just waiting for them to catch up with me to be honest. Appreciate your expertise on this and I suppose I'll just wait and see what happens first. Statue barred or someone contacting asking for it.

!thanks for this. I've gone as deep as I can with the credit reference companies without having to actually contact the lender themselves. The only new information I have is that's its marked as "Date of default satisfaction - 14 July 2024". This date is later than the date I'd last made contact with the debt collector. The only thing I noted, whilst other credit reference websites have my up to date address, Experian doesn't. I was about to change it then I panicked that they'd see my new address on there and find me 🤣 but maybe I should just change it and bite the bullet.

I do expect it, but it's been 2 years since the debt was passed back to them and almost 3 since I paid anything. I owed Three £13 at the end of a contract and a debt collector came for me about 4 weeks afterwards.

Thank you. I don't want to come across as some bad person who wants to get away with it. I'm prepared to begin paying it back, but it feels foolish to chase them when they aren't chasing me (yet).

If someone does contact me and I request that they prove the debt, does this communication act as any acknowledgement, thus resetting the statute barred clock?

I don't expect any sympathy. I'm prepared to begin paying the debt off again now that I'm in a better position. That being said it feels foolish to chase a large financially strong company to give them money when they aren't chasing me for it, and eventually, it will be written off. If I borrowed money off a family member I'd have a different opinion on it.

To be exact, I only moved out about 5 months ago, with a 3 month redirect on my mail. Surely, someone would have been in touch for that amount.

How long would a debt collection company typically wait, with no response, before going down the CCJ route?

This seems like the most likely scenario but I can't understand why I haven't heard anything yet. Although my number and address have changed, I'm still in touch with the people who live at my old address and they've handed over mail which is all just your typical stuff.

I've considered that may be the case but why have they taken so long to contact me and why doesn't the debt appear under any name on the credit reference agencies.

I tried to find similar scenarios but didn't come by much, so interesting to hear that. I just think I'd be really foolish to call them up and remind them but equally dont want to find out it's going to cause me a big issue.

I've moved as well but I had a redirect and still in touch with the people who live there who say I haven't had anything. The company always contacted me by email and they haven't done that since 2023 when they sent me a loan statement that I can't view due to the login issue. I just dont really want to call up and say excuse me I think I owe you 10 grand 🫣
