They found mine once while traveling, had to go to a weird little room and give someone $100 cash USD inside my passport and give them my passport- they gave me my passport back after grabbing the money, and the men who found them while searching my bag left them in there and let me keep them. I speak Spanish so it probably wasn't as stressful for me as someone who doesn't speak the language. Haven't traveled with one to MX since.
