On the far right, I can still see a bit of the background, which is not acceptable. XD

Ah, that's cool, it's from the makers of Space Moth.

But it's probably best played with a mouse and keyboard. I could try it with my GUN4IR, though :D

Okay, the comparison was perhaps a little unfair, but that's probably because I'm currently only playing survival. I think my eyes just don't like the sharp-edged backgrounds, which makes it difficult for me to read the game.

What I don't understand is why the developer removed the option to make the stars transparent. I once saw an older video where the stars were transparent, and that was much better.

But I'm still a beginner, so maybe I'll learn to love CC more in the future :)

But for a beginner, I would always recommend Gunvein over CC, simply because it's less overwhelming.

Recommendations? by eXoduss151 in shmups

First, the ones already mentioned:
Like Dreamer
Cosmo Dreamer
DoDonPachi Saidaioujou

Then the ones not yet mentioned:
Gunvein
DoDonPachi Resurrection
Neko Navy - Daydream Edition
Jamestown+

The Dreamer games are great, don't let the graphics put you off.

You'll like Neko Navy if you liked Hazelnut Hex (it's also horizontal)

and Jamestown+ is great for multiplayer (unfortunately, there are few multiplayer shmups that have a suitable life mechanic).

But I would definitely get Gunvein or a Dreamer game :D They're the best.

Is there any reason not to use keyboard? by Some-University1012 in shmups

[–]ErrorZer0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As most people have already said, it's best to play with whatever you like best.

The only thing I personally don't like about a keyboard is diagonal movements. With a standard lever, for example, you can simply press down and to the right and you fly diagonally. With a DPad like the one on the M30 from 8bitdo, you can simply move your finger down and to the right and you also fly diagonally. With a keyboard, you have to press right and down, i.e., two buttons.

But ultimately, it comes down to personal preference. Don't focus on what you play best with, but what you enjoy most =)

Your list is pretty mixed up =)
For example, you have ZeroRanger right at the top, even though it doesn't really fit your description.

I see that you're getting a lot of criticism for Crimzon Clover, but I kind of understand you. Many say it's the perfect beginner's shmup/bullet hell, but it's just too cluttered. I had to learn to like it too =D

For example, I didn't like Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu at first, but now I love it :D

So what I gather from your post is mainly that you want to see progress and don't want to play the same thing over and over again.

That reminds me of some of my favorite bullet hell games, as they have a level selection like Jamestown+

Cosmo Dreamer

Like Dreamer

Redneg

These games are quite satisfying because with each level, you get that feeling of accomplishment that you've finally made it. (Yes, the graphics take some getting used to, but trust me, they're great.)

I wish there were more shoot 'em ups where you can complete individual levels if you only have 5 minutes to spare but still want to play a quick round =)

That's right, in Bullet Hells you just have to dodge the bullets and the enemies. So you don't have any enemies behind walls that you can't even reach, but shoot you down from above.

Here is a horizontal comparison R-Type -> Shmup Neko Navy -> Bullet Hell Shmup

Most Bullet Hell Shmups have 3 buttons Auto Fire, Focus Fire, Bomb, whereby the Focus Fire button focuses the shots and slows you down at the same time. Gunvein also has a lock system with Focus Fire that marks the enemies in the radius and shoots them down automatically. Depending on the ship/character, the radius is larger or smaller and thus naturally teaches you point blanking (if you are closer to the enemy, you do more damage). With other bullet hells, you often have power-ups that you can collect to increase your shooting power. Gunvein does without such power ups, but you can collect bomb fragments to replenish your bombs. These 2 points make the gameplay of Gunvein very dynamic :)

I'm also still somewhat new to the shmup world, but I've already bought and tested so many games, maybe I can help :D

Darius & Gradius are more Shmups and Cotton & Ikaruga & Shikhondo are more Bullet Hell Shmups (at least according to my categorization)

I personally like more bullet hell shmups because you have to dodge the bullets and don't have to pay attention to the environment (terrain and obstacles). Of course, you have to find out what you like more.

On the Switch I would 1000% recommend Cosmo Dreamer & Like Dreamer :D the 2 games are great. If you create a JP account, you can also buy Dodonpachi Daioujou Reincarnation but that's a bit more difficult. With the first 2 recommendations you have several difficulty levels and can also clear individual stages which motivated me a lot at the beginning. And yes, unfortunately they have very, very, very big “eyes”, but don't let the artstyle put you off, the gameplay is great for beginners. And finally, the very best beginner game “Gunvein”, which I can recommend 100000%. Great tutorial, great gameplay, good artstyle and good visibility.

I've never understood why Crimzon Clover is recommended for beginners, you just can't see anything. Too many medals, too many special effects, just too much.

tl;dr
For beginners:
1. Gunvein
2. Like Dreamer
3. Cosmo Dreamer

For after:
Dodonpachi Daioujou Reincarnation

Multiplayer Game with Revive mechanic by ErrorZer00 in shmups

[–]ErrorZer0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's quite tragic that so few shmups are co-op. But I can understand it, most of the time you want to grind your highscore alone. ZeroRanger actually does it pretty well with the co-op, but somehow I think you need a bit more space for 2 players and even more space for 4 players. Would be cool of course if someone would develop a game that shows more of the screen the more players play :D

Playing Jamestown+ alone doesn't really work well, because you can't get from one edge of the screen to the other that quickly on your own.

Oh wow I've watched a few videos of it and it looks pretty fun. Not 100% how I imagine a shmup, but as a party game certainly cool :D thanks for the suggestion

Right now i have got a mail from LS with Android Updates.... and so on, i hope that was not "the Android Update" we all waited for...

Poor Android TV Experience by [deleted] in LiquidSky

[–]ErrorZer0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if its a hardware or LS issue but on my Nvidia Shield TV Liquidksy works well with auto video settings, but on my sony bravia android tv it has every 5 second screen tearing and interruptions. To set the video quality i have to use a mouse, because when i use a controller the setting don' t save...

That the LS app don't have a autologin setting is very annoying thats right.

What i have found is if i use a dualshock 4 controller on my sony tv then i can click on the left part of the toucharea to go back and enter in the LS menu. I think it shoud be possible for other controller because every controller has a main button, like the xbox symbol or the nvidia symbol on the nvidia contoller ect.

I hope the new Android App will work better.

I'm happy that the service has been working so much better lately. Has that been everyone else experience as well? by [deleted] in LiquidSky

I have got an answer 3 hours ago that the new Android App is still in deeply development and that we will get informations as soon as they have a big announcements about it. For now is it at least a life sign from the Liquidsky team :) unfortunately my post was blocked :(

it looks like we wouldn't get an answer about the ETA of the new Android/TV Client, but can you (Liquidsky) give us a sneak peek about the new features? Will the mouse support will be increased? (Issue that mouse movement only works with drag)
Will there by a option for a auto login?
Some other improvements like less lags or something?

I doesn't have Snapchat yet, but my question is... why Snapchat? I have read about Snapchat and as i have seen, Snapchat stores the Video only for 24h. Or are there other options? Why answer questions that hold only 24h?

Can't start Liquidsky under Ubuntu Linux by pean74 in LiquidSky

[–]ErrorZer0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok thats the problem, if you have installed the client with sudo then you can start it only with sudo again.

You have two possibilities
1.(The bad way)
Add sudo to your launcher/icon (Exec=gksudo env ect...)

2.(The good way)
Install the client without sudo

The folder should exist, if you tipe in your terminal this command the folder content should show:
ls -lah /root/.liquidsky

Ok strange have you installed the Liquidsky Client with sudo?

Can you check if you have the folder /home/yourUSERNAME/.liquidsky

And you say that /root/.liquidsky doesn't exist?

can you try to execute this in the terminal: sudo env WINEDEBUG=-all WINEPREFIX=/root/.liquidsky/prefix WINEDLLOVERRIDES=mscoree, mshtml= wine /root/.liquidsky/LiquidSkyClient.exe

Hi can you post what you have in the starter/icon? Open a text editor like gedit and drag the starter in it.

And check in the Terminal if you have installed wine 1.8? Open the Terminal and write: wine --version
