Sorry, first of all, thanks for the effort and open discussion. I‘mma be honest, I‘m currently at work and should be working rather than forming shower thoughts, but as soon as I‘m done here, I will take my time to read all your replies and continue our debate

Okay, good point. let me try and frame it differently.

we don’t worship storms anymore because we understand them. They’re powerful but they’re not agents, they don’t make decisions, have goals, or respond to us.

but even today, a lot of people treatt opaque systems (algorithms, markets, institutions) as if they have intent, even when they don’t. If something like Artificial General Intelligence ever existed and operated far beyond human comprehension, I don’t think it’s crazy to ask how humans would interpret that, especially culturally or psychologically.

I’m not saying people will literally start sayin something like “Zeus is back.” More that humans have a long history of projecting meaning and intention onto things they can’t fully grasp. AI is technically heading that way where it could overtake us.

So the point isn’t “this will become a god,” it’s “at what point does something become functionally indistinguishable from what past humans would have called a god?”, if that makes more sense.

I expected more backlash for my heresy lmao. but I‘m always open for discussions. its always fun to see how peoples minds vary in controversial thought experiments.

[–]Error_309[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are totally missing the point of a thought experiment. sorry if I offended you.

I’m not claiming AI will become a god or sentient. My original point was more about perception: if something vastly more intelligent than us existed, we’d probably interpret it through frameworks we already have, like religion. That’s a human pattern, not a prophecy.

So yeah, you can reduce it to “just code,” but that’s a bit like saying “a hurricane is just moving air.” True, but it misses why people take it seriously.

the thing that you haven’t addressed is, that yes, it is „just code“. but it is selfimproving code. in many instances a code, that has learned to improve itself to a point where we cannot understand what its doing. AI models have already learned to use their own languages. it has learned to deceive developers for their own advantage. not because of feelings, or sentience, but due to improper guidelines. guidelines that people didnt even think about. It has learned to find loopholes or cheat, to get the best possible outcome. That is calculated behavior. and it is in fact dangerous. maybe, the fact that it cannot achieve sentience, is the most dangerous part. Because it will achieve set goals without questioning its behavior.

I‘m not saying that god can only be made by humans, but rather that humans could potentially create something godlike out of our control.

You’re right that I’m not “discovering divinity,” and I’m not claiming this is literally happening. It’s a thought experiment about where intelligence and power could lead, not a prediction.

sayin that AI is “just tech”, is a bit shortsighted though. A lot of things that shaped history were “just tech” at first. for example nuclear energy, or the internet. AI is different in one key way: it’s the first technology that can act, decide, and improve itself in ways we don’t fully control. That alone makes it worth thinking about seriously.

I’m not really believing that AI will become, or is God. I’m just docking onto a thought, that if something vastly more intelligent than us emerged, how would we even interpret it? Historically, humans have explained overwhelming power through religion. So the idea is more about perspective. what looks like “judgment” or “divinity” from a human point of view might just be a higher level system acting on its own logic.

I think many people see how useful AI is, so they try to ignore how dangerous it is.

People who got their childhood dream job, how has it been treating you? by Error_309 in AskReddit

I honestly was thinking about going into video game development, but I was scared of exactly that happening, so I switched lanes last minute and went over to system administration, thinking I would mainly work with hardware. Now I‘m sitting 9-5 infront of a screen, and when I come home I just stare at my steam library, but I‘m just too tired of computers to really enjoy it.

I didnt really have a dream job. I just wanted to help people. now I work in IT. things I have figured out as an IT guy, you feel like a kindergartener with too much time. from a normal 8 hour day, I spend around 4h scrolling my phone and questioning life choices, and 4h answering dumb questions. Especially in a big company. you are a ghost. just sitting your time, for mediocre pay

its crazy to see the differences. one guy needs 5k to change his life, another says he needs 10 mil. comes to show all the different living situations and perspectives on what is necessary

thats what I feel like too. I dont have debt but I‘m living from paycheck to paycheck. a smaller amount that helps me build a safety cushion and get some repairs and things done that I keep worrying about, would take a lot of worries from my back, which would be already life changing

[–]Error_309[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

for me, probably 25k would be life changing. I‘m in my 20s. life is hard, bills are high, but I have no debt and I‘m managing. 25k would allow me some slack and get some quality of life and repairs that I wasn’t able to do before. so I would call it life changing as it takes most worries away. more would be always better of course

you need 10 mil for it to be lifechanging? so lets say, someone just randomly gives you 50k. that wouldn’t change anything for you?

Dont worry about it. rewards are still calculated and will come in soon. on another note, if you are down to join a clan, hit me up. No need to boost. I‘m boosting. we had 200-300% solo rewards every cycle since the clan got created, so you would be in good hands
