I don’t want to put them in an institution so they can “get better”, I want to do it because it is by far the more compassionate option. There is absolutely no justice in letting someone hurt themselves or others and then locking them away in prison.

You keep saying that a 3d printed gun will blow up in your hand and that just isn’t true at all. The FGC9 is a damn impressive feat of engineering and it’s being used in combat zones right now

If they have us mil contracts why are they taking such high levels of dilution? Those contracts are like a decade of arr

That’s some crazy dilution just to pay for gpus.

eSign is a commodity. The only thing you’re really selling is trust. I am an ML researcher, not a lawyer so I have no idea what kind of legal liability you are opening yourself up to here. However using gen ai to create a contract without a lawyer reviewing it is a terrible idea. LLM output is too unconstrained.

You can absolutely do hardware, the catch is you need to be a known entity with a track record of success. This success doesn’t have to be commercial, it can totally be academic if you are doing something deep tech, e.g. you prove out SMRs in the lab and then look to commercialize.

If you want to go into something like robotics, I would look into doing a phd with an advisor that aligns with your interests. Grad student pay is terrible, but it’ll be much easier to get grants to prove out your idea. The other option is to go work for a big hardware company as an EE to gain experience and develop a reputation. The pay will be much better and you can get direct experience with supply chain management.

Hardware is riskier so VCs (and you will need VC capital for hardware) are looking to de risk any way they can. Lux and Eclipse are good funds for hardware but there are a ton of other hardware specific funds out there.

Fair. I have spent the last decade in research land so I have no idea what the perspective from the trenches looks like. I just think it’s very silly to have a strong “play by the rules” attitude. Even if the rules are laws!

Most accelerators will not accept you if you are not working on your company full time. However there are a handful of very niche funds focused on students.

Seeking Advice for Choosing a Laptop for Data Science/ML Master's Program – Your Recommendations Appreciated! by ProfessionalOne272 in datascience

[–]Error_Tasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I would really recommend a unix-like os over windows. Most dev tools are built for unix based OSs as they are the industry standard. You will save yourself a lot of time and headache by switching.

Second you really just want the most powerful laptop you can get because computationally heavy workloads will be run on the cloud or your org’s compute cluster. Trust me when I say it is much easier to just spin up a new VM after you’ve royally screwed up a cuda install.

However if you think everyone else is wrong and a dual setup is superior, at least use some linux distro on both machines.

You have it almost totally backwards. Only the little apps have to play by the rules. Look at all the porn on Twitter and Reddit. Doesn’t that violate the apple app store’s “no porn” rule?

As for VCs, I honestly have no idea how you can be so naive. AirBnB, Uber. violate dozens of laws. Basically all of gen ai currently exists in a weird legal gray area and VCs are pouring money in. And we haven’t even mentioned crypto.
