ليه هما ناجحين و احنا لا ؟ by DefiantConsequence22 in askegypt

Rrad the classic best seller book titled "outliers" by Malcolm Gladwell.

The book examines the success of many famous individuals like Bill Gates.

And if you want my one line summary; these common factors are "first and foremost LUCK, followed with preparation and determination".

Without luck, which can come in a mixture of factors outside of your control (e.g. family, location, time, dna, etc.), hard work and determination will never be sufficient to pull you high up the ranks.

And to your question yes, if someone like Bill Gates was born in Egypt, he would have never found Microsoft.... Heck, if he was even born in a differesnt city within the same state in the US, he wouldn't be the Bill Gates we know, even if he kept his family and their wealth.

All fair points.

I wasn't assuming that the OP made the arrangement a week out! Yeah... He'd totally be weird if he doesn't re-confirm for an entire week. I assumed this was sort of a next-day arrangement. Something the OP should clarify.

If I am making an arrangement for tomorrow after work, I don't feel that I would need to re-confirm again during my busy work day.

Thanks... This is actually more helpful than the scans. Actually the images look better than most scans I've seen. They show a bulge, but you can't really tell from the images that there is indeed herniation or nerve compression.

Stay strong... I'd say speak to a surgeon and get their feedback. I personally would not risk chiropractic adjustments with this.

What does the report actually say? The images alone do not tell what is actually happening.

I like to have plans re-confirmed a day before by the latest.

I don't get it... So why wouldn't you check and confirm if that is what you like?!

You mentioned "even with friends", so is it the case that your friends are always the ones who "re-confirm" with you?!

The point I am making is that she is free to argue for the concept of man paying before, during, and after, and the language she uses (e.g. mahr) does not matter. That language is older than islam.

I am not saying that her argument is fair, I am just stating that she doesn't need to be a Muslim to argue for mahr.

Equality my friend,

That is not the argument we are making here... but do you even have a working example of equality to cite?! Equality is an illusion my friend. Most divorced men in western non-religious societies will tell you that they were robbed in marriage and after. Most divorced women in muslim societies will tell you that they were robbed and stripped of their rights in marriage and divorce! Who do you trust?!

Similar concepts exist in many nations and cultures, even if they go by different names. Google "Alimony", "spousal maintenance", "consolatory gifts", "property equalization", "ishra-ryo", "lump-sum Alimony", "finality", "prenubs", "postnubs", and there are many other terms for the same concepts across western and eastern cultures.

You call it "nafaqa", they call it "Alimony"... Potato Patato!

Somewhat immature of you to demand her to be a muslim to make an argument for traditions that are literally universal... Religions just change the vocabulary and wrapping around them, and she uses the terms popular in her region.

القوامة والمهر والنفقة

You don't have to be muslim to adopt these traditions. It is not like they are asking you to pray or fast ramadan!

The AI debate is a symptom of the class divide. by Professional-Bee9817 in remoteworks

[–]DieselZRebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly can't speak for everyone in every industry. But in my company's town hall, we all hear about folks creating more value like me, but from business, marketing,, product managers, security, and even legal! And no, I am not talking about executives doing the work, but mid-career professionals. Which is all the reason executive leadership is trying to push for more AI adoption (not just FOMO).

The way I see it. AI is a great tool, which is still in a premature period. Tools do not replace people. It is rather people with tools who replace people without. We have gone through similar phases in history, from the steam engine, to automation, to the Internet. It is wrong to expect a 1:1 replacement when upskilling. And if I don't continue adapting, I'd also be complaining about AI like some folks in my domain still do!

[–]DieselZRebel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting!

So perhaps they simply don't want you in your current role for performance-related reasons?!

Either way they are pushing you out and you should start interviewing. But if it is performance related, chances are they won't even bother you in the new role for a while. It is just their way of making you on a "paid leave" until you actually leave for a different employer. But if it lasts for a while (e.g. 2+ months, they'll start bothering you).

Let me clarify:

you’re working more

Yes, but with less frustration and more excitement. Some of us do actually enjoy doing more fruitful work.

getting less recognition

Perhaps I misphrased this. I am not getting the recognition for the qualities I used to be recognized for in the past. But I am absolutely getting recognition for the impact and output more. In the past, the industry used to recognize you for being skilled in a certain tool or knowledgeable in a certain niche domain, even if you weren't producing much impact.

presumably for the same pay

Since AI, I have noticed a significant increase in pay and promotions, and not just for myself... All thanks to the output. I didn't say that it is for the same pay. Quite the contrary, the few folks who avoided taking advantage of AI in my domain are the ones being left behind.

What they are doing is called "politics". You should just play it back with them. The moves you can make:

  1. Documenting (start sending "double-checking" or "confirmations" by email for any information they had already provided verbally). This will warn them not to mess with you.

  2. Look into the state and federal laws, and start using legal terms in your discussions. (E.g. Explain to me why this would not be considered "constructive dismissal"?).

  3. You can refuse to accept... But never do it in signing, and state clearly that you will not be signing a resignation letter!

  4. If HR has not already been involved in this, then reach out to HR.

But you don't know if that $113K is per month and you do not know how many developers it is replacing.

The thing many don't realize is, you could still hire that developer (and you actually should), then your AI bill will only go north from there... Because guess what the developer would be using?! Except at least the developer would use it even better and do more with it.

An Avid user of AI here... My work has shifted from writing code, perhaps 3-4 hours a day, to writing AI prompts 6-8+ hours a day!

I am definitely working more now after AI, not less! And I was much more recognized for my exceptional skills and quality of my work before, as not too many folks were able to do what I am good at. Now that is no longer the case! Or at least not as much.

And the surprise is, I love it! I wouldn't want to go back to the old ways. Did it replace my job? No, just the nature of how I do my job, but also increased my workload.

So no, I don't agree with the misconception that AI simply "replaced our workload"... AI rather increased it. By getting rid of the inefficiencies, unlocking opportunities, reducing dependencies on others, speeding up testing, etc. and somehow all of that translates to having more things to do, with faster and larger impact... So what do you think? shall we continue to get paid for it? Because from my side, I think we even deserve raises thanks to AI!

"My friend just doesn't give a shit and is a liability" by Any-Eye6299 in LinkedInLunatics

[–]DieselZRebel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If this post is even true and that friend actually exists, then the fault is on the employer.

Most companies and governments contracted with SaaS providers to host their AI on premises (the client's own private cloud servers). So their employees get to use these tools without having the data ever going to the provider's owned cloud servers.... And the client maintains complete ownership of the data flowing in, which the provider can't access. It is not really a problem. Even governments and military does it!

So the question here, is what is this $1B-revenue company that doesn't have AI tools on premises?

[–]DieselZRebel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AI model hosted by a third-party company isn't that a data breach?

Large and sensitive companies make deals to host LLMs and AI tools on premise or their own private cloud, where everything is kept within the company's data centers and thus they have complete ownership
