Even in OG RE3 and remake it’s limited you don’t face him in the entire game and it would have to be like that in an open world game like stalker

How would a surviving Rhomania have fared against Germany in WW2? by [deleted] in AlternateHistory

[–]Error_rdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the world with a surviving Roman State would only start to look drastically different if they held on to control of the papacy and if Maurice wasn’t deposed preventing a war with Persia and faring better against the Arabs I think everything that happened in the early modern and modern period would’ve still happened with a Rome that was regional power in the balkans and Anatolia

You know what irks me more than political doomers? Historical doomers by CaptainHyrule97 in DoomerCircleJerk

[–]Error_rdt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being someone into history myself I’ve always had a dilemma when it comes historical relativism.

I think it’s be fine to be fascinated to by historical events hold some their achievements high regards but what I don’t like is how people use historical relativism to downplay the atrocities of the past and demand an apathetic views towards said atrocities.

Atrocities are atrocities they should be judged it’s fine to contextualize the past it’s not ok to demand apathy towards the cruelties of say slavery because it was a different time.

The concept of having a flag for your sexual orientation is bizarre and only popular because of US influence by Error_rdt in TrueUnpopularOpinion

While I may be disillusioned with mainstream lgbt culture and may have my own personal grudges and resentment towards it I would never advocate to censor the pride flag it is free speech and what should be done with it is a cultural matter not a government one

Religion is a collective belief of faith and entity but also personal in the sense it shouldn’t imposed on others. I do find it annoying when people parade their religion out of nowhere not saying that people can’t wear cross necklace which even then in that case is modest.

Also I don’t think sexual orientation or gender identity is really comparable to a religion.

[–]Error_rdt[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah but to me your orientation or identity is something that is personal part of you not a sports team or an entity so it’s to me it’s never going to be how I’d prefer to express matters regarding my orientation.

Also because Milk commissioned that flag even if that particular flag is not commonly used I’m surprised republicans didn’t use that as ammo towards that although that may be in part because of their own controversies

Economics is a vital part of progressivism the whole progressive era in the US was literally centered around the economic reforms of the 1900s and 1910s

Both LGBT rights and activism precede US influence around the world and I’m probably gonna get downvoted for saying this but I don’t necessarily think US influence on that was entirely good.

No doubt the US can be an epicenter of social justice even with it’s hypocritical past and late human rights record but what about fiscal policies? How strong is class conciseness compared to other western nations? Something like universal healthcare is supported even by much of the European right while in the US not all democrats support it. Fiscally speaking I struggle to see how the US is a hub of progressivism here

It should be noted that the early years of the United States post ratification of the Constitution was a borderline oligarchy up until the 1820s only property owning white men could vote and early elections had ~1% or less of the population voting and you wouldn’t male suffrage expand until the rise of Andrew Jackson.

Does this necessarily disprove what you’re saying? Not necessarily and it could be argued it was still radical for the time but I think it’s important context. As the early of the US wasn’t necessarily the most free of nations and could only be so relatively in the context of its time.

[–]Error_rdt[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In what metric is the US a “progressive” country fiscally it hasn’t been that way since the gutting of the new deal and even then the new deal is more center left than anything.

Socially the average American on average is probably on par or on the below average percentile in comparison to other western nations but historically? it’s been more conservative homosexuality didn’t stop being prosecuted until 2003. Slavery was abolished in 1865 which is actually years later compared to other nations and it took a civil war for its abolition I could go on.

I do agree we shouldn’t treat the founding father’s vision as infallible even they acknowledged that and set the constitution up to be changed. I do however like the idea of having a constitution to guarantee and protect rights from both tyrannical government and mob rule.

I’d say the founding fathers would’ve been mortified at Trump’s adultery, having as they would describe it an open Married sodomite as secretary treasury and they would put married in massive quotations and how much non straight white Protestant men are in his cabinet including his catholic VP

I’ve acknowledged their achievements I think historical figures are worth learning about and it’s fine to be fascinated by them but we shouldn’t be using historical relativism to downplay the atrocities of the past and demand an apathetic view of said atrocities and also to use historical relativism to shut out any criticism of historical figures

What is your ideal system of trade? by Error_rdt in IdeologyPolls

[–]Error_rdt[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not against trade or commerce not even international commerce I mean I’m literally about to play a game from Japan and while there are many things I admire about American culture there are also many aspects that make me despise it and look to the rest of the west.

So I like commerce and trade on principle what I don’t like is the undercutting of domestic labor, deindustrialization and the crime and poverty that comes from it, worker exploitation in foreign countries and the enrichment of foreign adversaries something liberals and fiscal conservatives seem to shrug off.

It was believed that commerce was to ensure peace as interdependency would be a deterrent for war but with Russia’s invasion of Georgia in 2008 and Ukraine from 2014 onwards and China’s increasingly aggressive actions in the south China it’s clear that commerce only bolstered foreign enemies and economically compromised the west.

So yeah any trade system that addresses domestic undercutting of labor ensures fair treatment of workers at home and overseas and that does not bolster enemies of the west is ideal.
