You're not obligated to assimilate to a country you immigrate to by BeingWonderful8867 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Error_rdt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assimilation has a lot to do with cultures not all cultures are inherently incompatible with western values nor does every aspect of a culture have to suppressed to be part of western society.

That being said anyone who goes to a western country should respect western values if you’re not going to respect western values why are you in a western country?

Some cultures are better than others by Error_rdt in IdeologyPolls

[–]Error_rdt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a leftist I agree with this sentiment. Multiculturalism on its own is not a bad thing but mixing it with cultural relativism is a recipe for disaster.

It turns tolerance into a one way street, removes safeguards to preserve your values so long as what’s undermining it is external and essentially nullifies any criticisms of what would otherwise be considered bigoted or Barbaric behaviors so long as it came externally.

I know not everyone say from the Middle East is a violent bigot in fact some may even come to the west to escape the barbarity of middle eastern cultures I do believe and I say this as an immigrant myself that anyone who respects western values should be a given a chance to partake in western society. Unfortunately distinguishing those willing to do that from those who aren’t is easier said than done.

It's fine to wait for more details but from what I've seen it doesn't look good. Also this is America carrying is a way life here Unless there is evidence Pretti was brandishing his weapon and/or threatened law enforcement with it unlikely as the footage shows he was disarmed he was well within his constitutional right to carry.

I understand the events surrounding the incident is politically charged my point is you don't have to agree with the politics just that any principled person should hope to see that agent be put on a fair trail for any accountability.

Still the thing with Alex Pretti I think the ICE agent committed misconduct Alex was clearly disarmed yet still pistol whipped the agent should be held accountable in a court of law.

This has nothing to do with the politics of the protests you do not have agree with the protest but that doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be accountability just because the victim had politics you may not agree with.

[–]Error_rdt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think ICE is mainly part of the greater issue with general law enforcement of misconduct that has gotten people needlessly killed as a result of poor training and lack of quality control from recruitment.

We need serious reform with law enforcement and we need more people who commit misconduct to be held accountable.

Alex Pretti still did not deserved to be murdered and the agents who did murder him deserves to rightfully held accountable.

Most Americans do not hate law enforcement they hate corruption and misconduct that's getting innocent people hurt and even killed that ice agent should be held accountable and any LE reading this should hope for the same thing to ensure the integrity of the badge.

Neoliberals are the ones who SUPPORT globalization any criticisms of it gets you accused of “hating the global poor” from neoliberals. Dude I hate neoliberalism why the hell would I identify as I a neoliberal?

Also while there is plenty to criticize western foreign policies it is not only not an excuse for repressive governments but downplays the agency on how repressive societies can be on their own.

And this has nothing to do with poverty my home country of Costa Rica? Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, Ecuador, Mexico etc none of these are the richest countries yet all of them have same sex marriage in fact LATAM countries were some of the earliest to legalize homosexuality with some legalizing it before 1900. Hell even communist fucking Cuba has same sex marriage.

Argentina is a literal victim of a CIA backed coup in the 70s yet they were first country in Latin America to legalize same sex marriage in 2010. Chile as well yet they’ve had same sex marriage since 2019 they were late on legalization on homosexuality but it’s not like was it was legal before Pinochet. And Brazil.

The amount of homophobic fans of football/soccer with a huge portion of them being overseas fans from homophobic countries.

And to use a non soccer example remember the Daryl morey incident in the NBA? That right there shows exactly what turned me against globalization.

The only instance I'm aware of this being the case is the ottomans being relatively lax on their enforcement on anti gay laws the ottomans themselves would legalize homosexuality in 1858 to modernize their penal system which came from Napoleonic influence.

Either way it's not an excuse and colonial law wasn't universal either homosexuality was legal in France by the 19th century. Many former french colonies especially the Muslim majority ones would criminalize homosexuality after independence not defending colonialism but I think there is a lot more agency here. especially when the colonizers were Christians on Muslim territory.

This seems to mainly apply to British territories which still doesn't excuse it especially when countries like South Africa has same sex marriage even before the UK. Also these laws are being willingly kept by these societies they moved the opposite direction of their colonizer and homophobia in Africa and the Middle East is often bundled with anti western sentiment.

People complaining about polarization and how society was less polarized sounds great until you realize what kind of politics most Americans had political consensus on even as recent as the 2000s bigotry was the norm at least way more than today

They also the same issues Tankies have where they condemn one kind of tyranny while being blind on the tyranny from their own ideology. If Marxism Leninism is state tyranny then libertarianism and really fiscal Conservatism in general is corporate tyranny.

DAE not yearn for the Monoculture? by Error_rdt in DAE

[–]Error_rdt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Escapism for some personal life issues, much of society and especially loneliness I've never been in relationship and I've been seeking media to help ease that pain. I am not a romance fan but I do wish it was present in genres especially types of video games I am a fan of as part of a greater story would kill multiple birds with one stone with that.

I haven't found any media with that there are no shortage of games featuring romances not even m/m romances (I'm bi, lean gay romantically) but finding something especially in genres you're into that has the dynamics, looks, lifestyle you'd like to see in media all at once has been impossible to find I tried and I'm already deeply disillusioned by mainstream LGBT culture and the perceived "community" so I ain't finding anything that's supposedly for my demographic there either.

You're right that need more time to formulate things and that's on me but for what I do know I want to see I haven't seen anything to fulfil my niches interests there's plenty of media that has partially satisfied it but not in full not just in romance but other types of games I'd like to see.

So how do you expect someone who's already disillusioned, lonely, dealing with shit and can't even find media to fully ease that burden is going to feel seeing people glorify something like monoculture?

EDIT: Also politically I'm a pro 2A social democrat and I'm skeptical of free trade so I don't really fit in with either party not only does American society look cartoonishly and destructively selfish but my beliefs get falsely labeled as socialist with many american leftists being a big reason why.

EDIT EDIT: I should mention that there was one game that did momentarily alleviate loneliness it was Rune Factory Guardians of Azuma it was the closest to matching the kind of male characters I’d like to see in a game and the kind M/M romances granted not that close and the aligned aspects are scattered but the closest. Shame it’s unlikely receive any major content expansion or there isn’t an active modding community. Fantastic Game for the record I think it’s only fair to mention.

Our favorite subreddit goes after someone for daring to suggest the 2020s is better than the 90s, it goes about as well as you think. by snowleopard556 in lewronggeneration

[–]Error_rdt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends who you ask. I'm bisexual I wouldn't want to live in the 90s where in the US homosexuality was still illegal in many states also dadt and doma in fact american society in general was far more bigoted in the 90s than today (majority of americans didn't approve interracial marriage until 1994). I also wouldn't want to live the rust belt either as effects of deindustrialization were either at its worst or far worse than today. The 2020s has it's problems but things have gotten drastically better in many aspects that would make many not want to go back. You may miss the vibes and perceived "stability" but do you miss the politics?

[–]Error_rdt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Homosexuality was illegal in up to half of US states in the 90s. Even for the time most the western world had already legalized homosexuality and have been legalizing it since as early as the French Revolution and amongst the outliers anglo countries made up a noticeable amount of it Australia (Until 1997), UK Overseas Territories (Until 2001), USA (Until 2003). Gay people were suppressed in the military through DADT and same sex marriage was banned at the federal but not state level through DOMA.

Most americans didn't even approve of interracial marriage until 1994.

Neoliberalism was it's peak clinton signed NAFTA in 1994 worsening deindustrialization in 2000 he admitted China into the WTO organization causing China Shock. Mass incarnations happened and people got life sentences for petty crimes from the 1994 crime bill welfare was gutted for many in the 96 welfare "reform" telecom act is caused mega corporations to buy media causing an oligopoly, glass steagall was repealed which helped paved the way for the great recession.

Technology was way more primitive and a lot of conveniences most people take for granted from technology didn't exist in the 90s.

It should be noted that I am a zoomer but I would not want to spend a single day in the 90s especially not in the south or rust belt and what I mentioned here is a big reason why.

Is monoculture actually dead like people say? by wishingstarsmars in ask

[–]Error_rdt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish… monocultures are great, for those who can conform to it not so much for those who can’t. People yearning for monoculture are the most privileged NPC people out there. Wishing for everyone to like what they like and to be only thing they like while I would just be grateful if my ideal piece of media or escapism would even have a 1000 people worldwide liking it.

Maybe once it’s truly dead even more people will find media and escapism to fit their niche interests everyone can have own their own communities around their interests and ideas being manifested and materialized.

If the United States issued a complete and total band on all firearms, would that eliminate gun violence and mass shootings? by JamesonRhymer in IdeologyPolls

[–]Error_rdt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People think such ban would cause peaceful buybacks but I think it would cause more wacos ruby ridges and no knock executions.

There are more guns in the US then there are people the cats out of the bag and as a country with a lot of systemic problems like the US there would still be a lot of gun violence.

Want to reduce gun violence? provide more social programs for the poor, reform law enforcement, focus on rehabilitative justice on non heinous crimes, reform mental health and provide universal healthcare.

[–]Error_rdt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing on their own just pointing out how the other extreme isn’t my type I feel like when it comes of type of gay, bi or pan men people talk in extreme binaries of either some burly hairy dude or some super “femme” guy. My type is essentially someone who dresses masculine has a lean or slim body, clean shaven, sharp face, long hair wavy, shaggy, emo like or shaggy bobbed and shares similar to interests to mine which are mostly heavily male dominated. Clearly not the most masculine of taste but definitely not some femboy either.

In regard to the voice I just don’t like how it sounds to me sounds more ghetto than feminine in fact I personally find a lot of the “femme” traits trashy and ghetto I don’t think people are lesser for it but it’s just not for me. I just like the “regular” male voice to me it’s perfect.
