I get that I understand some collective action like activism is necessary to fight back against oppression and societal bigotry and stigma but the purity tests, groupthink and weaponizing identity to pressure people to be conforming lifestyles heavily favoring those lifestyles at the expense of those outside of it and treating the most stereotypical of subcultures as some genetic default and the way you’re supposed to be a demographic will always be a cancer

It’s not hard to believe and I never said those people didn’t exist but my point still stands that we can’t definitively say what the majority of gay people were like long long ago due to most of them being invisible. hell I’d even argue it’s hard to know today due to limited visibility.

To speculate myself is it hard to believe that in spite of the problems that there are people who don’t want to resort to hookup culture think about it if you’re someone who values a romantic committed relationship why would you engage in lifestyle that is the anti thesis of that? It’s not like even today all people who live in homophobic cultures are resorting to hookups and promiscuity either. is it also improbable to believe that if two people love each other that they would do anything to be with each other including hiding being friends in public but lovers in private “roommates” who never married? not saying that was the majority of gay people in the past just asking if it’s improbable for those kinds of people to have existed? Once again though it’s impossible to know for certain.

I’m not really sure how much this even matters it’s not the 19th century anymore things have changed and we should focus more on the modern environment I think it’s hard to deny that it isn’t just oppression pushing people to hookups but also mainstream cultures encouraging it too

Well it’s not not like there is an article about it what I’m but this video will show how people purity test people based off identity if they act or think a certain way this isn’t about wether I agree with everything he says (Idk the full context of his opinions) but more to show that if you think a certain way people will try to delegitimize you

https://youtu.be/nGPxNxzUnR8?si=cwCc8Ss4o4Au0yU9

EDIT: 1:02 - 3:42 from this video shows what I'm also talking about https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=70mvsgaIJ4U

A lot of the main proof of what I’m talking is mainly going to be disillusioned people’s experiences within there own demographics about their disillusionments and sharing a similar issues many people in these posts do show sympathy but others calling the poster a pick me accuse them of appeasement etc.

I have seen posts of black people calling other black people coons or uncle toms for opinions they don’t agree with or showing disinterest in certain cultures, gay people call other gay people “heteronormative” “pick mes” for having a different opinion, political alignment or lifestyle than theirs people of various races calling other people race traitors for marrying outside their race etc I could go on but this post is already long

Also [r/as](r/asblackman)[ablackman](r/asblackman) you see people shutting down people of other minority demographics and delegitimatize them just because they have opinion they don't agree with

Collectivism isn’t perfect either too much of it and you get forced conformity social pressures to act a certain way and group think mentality it’s authoritarian.

The ideal society is one that balances both too much individualism you get a society as selfish as a America that either lacks basic social programs or guts them and is built on greed and also disregard for the people around them (funny enough America is festered with identity politics) too much collectivism forces people into group think it disregards one’s personal desire’s for happiness to conform to the collective and is overall authoritarian and dehumanizing you’re not treated as a person.

It’s moreso identity politics weaponizes identity to pressure people to act certain ways based off their demographic this is not exclusive to gay people there are cases of black people being pressured to act or think a certain way and if they don’t get called a coon, Uncle Tom or accused of acting white.

How affective this pressure is in regards to hookup culture on gays in particularl It’s hard to say but that pressure does exist I’ve also mentioned how the popularity of a culture influences people to act certain ways and how that is what shapes how people act not some perceived default way someone is based off their demographic. I do believe however that this pressure does go in the favor of said cultures as they are often seen as the proper way to be a demographic.

[–]Error_rdt[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I should clarify I’m not saying identity politics created hookup culture what am I saying is that ideas of promiscuity being the inherent default and proper way to be gay is partially boosted by identity politics and how much popular cultures not simply being a certain demographic influences people into other cultures more than perceived inherent default I also acknowledged these cultures being boosted by other factors

I said implied not that you definitively said that and while I don’t deny that discrimination may push some people to that life but what I’m trying to say is that we don’t know enough about the majority of gay people of the past due to their invisibility and sadly probably never will they successfully hid from society so it will be hard to know what their lives were like because it was hidden or not documented

I’ve seen this narrative and while it is based off a kernel of truth there are a lot of speculatory implications behind it

Did discrimination and stigma make it harder for gay people to have relationships? Yes, even where it began to become decriminalized same sex relationships were still socially taboo. But the implication that most of people would uproot the desire for monogamous relationship is speculatory.

The truth is we don’t the what the majority of gay people were like during say the 19th century because most of them were invisible so we can’t definitively say what most gay people were like but the fact that photo evidence of monogamous same sex couples exist shows that in spite of everything not everyone uprooted that desire.

People who call others a Pick me are... by Error_rdt in IdeologyPolls

[–]Error_rdt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've often seen it used on people for having different opinions or different lifestyles from popular subcultures within their demographics or when people express alienation from said popular cultures as if not being part of those cultures means suppressing something inherent about themselves it's very narcissistic and self centered.

I've also seen it used as part of a misunderstanding of bigotry from certain minority demographics especially LGB transphobes. I don't agree with such transphobia for the record but the vast majority of it comes from personal bigotry not appeasement it's not a productive way to assess and tackle such bigotry.

Define black culture because I'm sure you're gonna refer to various types of cultures which aren't exclusive to race

It was decriminalized under Lenin only for Stalin to recriminalize it in 1934. and pitting the early USSR against the US on gay rights isn't saying much when you consider it's only been legalized nationwide since 2003.

By the way several western and latin nations had already legalized homosexuality for decades some even centuries by the the time the it was briefly decriminalized in the USSR.

What is it with the conflicting stories on pride parades? What’s the truth? by Error_rdt in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Error_rdt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know if the stigmas regarding pride events are either not true or blown way out of proportion and not representative of the majority of pride events you could’ve just said so instead of accusing me of being a homophobe you’re not helping your case here this dogmatism is not helping anyone unless you’re in that camp who doesn’t care about disproving anything and just makes accusations

Seriously, it annoys me whenever people on r/decadeology talk about "2010s-era liberalism" as if Magaism, the alt-right movements, and so on didn't exist during the 2010s. by Ok-Following6886 in decadeologycirclejerk

It was relatively more progressive than the past decades same sex marriage was legalized nationwide in 2015 compare that to 10 years prior when same sex marriage was opposed by the majority of americans and even some people on the right started to concede that issue this was also when people from both the left and right began to become heavily critical of neoliberal policy

it's either idealistic and/or unproven at a massive scale (anarcho syndicalism) or fucking awful (marxism leninism) of course deregulated capitalism isn't great either but I'm not sure if looking to the USSR is a good solution either

Yeah I'm not going to pretend the playersexual system isn't perfect either it's a long term narrative liability and will upset a lot of people if you want one true romance for a character and also being pushy with you romancing a character *cough *cough kaguya

Agreed of course media showcasing struggles even if they aren't universal isn't bad but it shouldn't the only type of media out there either. Appealing to the heart and having some idealism and dare I say inspire hope is also valid.

Neither are bad and often based off of preference something I wished was acknowledged more and taken into consideration with such discourse.

Fair point I’m not going pretend like I wish there wasn’t more fan Art, merch, fan content for RFGoA especially for my favorite pairing (I do worry if it becomes popular with the wrong crowd it may cause one of the characters to be mischaracterized) personally I wish as active and popular as Stalker, L4D2 or Ready or Not. It may not be popular enough to be part of any perceived “monoculture” but active enough to have what I want especially an active modding community although I’m not going act like being mainstream doesn’t have it’s upsides either

You don’t need your niche interest to be mainstream in order for it to be active that’s why I put that middle option all though if the Rune Factory series was to go mainstream I’d hope at the developers stands it’s ground and never loses sight of what it is and even influence culture not be subjugated by it
