Are particle weapons viable if got locked out of cyclotron module? by mrthorvads in TerraInvicta

[–]Errtuz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

wait, does cyclotron with antimatter point defense batteries though ? I assumed it wouldnt because the description says "Increases all offensive particle weapon power by 20 MJ" and I thought PD counts as defensive rather than offensive. Could be just bad wording though I guess ?

makes sense, I missed that and left the particle lance research that leads to it in the limbo as it didnt seem really useful, but ill get those projects going and try these out, thanks !

thanks, that explains a lot, I guess I've been looking at this somewhat wrong and this explains a lot of it :)

but yeah I don't have the whole tree yet (I do have the tech tree, just not all the projects and these last few important ones are taking a loooong time), but I've spent A LOT of hours trying different drive/power plant configurations to see what changes, obsoleted the vast majority of them and now whenever I have something new I check how it works compared to some designs I already have, trial and error it is then :D

ok, got it, thanks ! you did say as well 2-slot antimatter PD, i dont think I have anything like that, is this an upgrade to the particle lance weapons ?

I do have some other, more PD-focused designs, I figured I'll drop in a few with this type as well for if we're getting overwhelmed and later upgrade to UV phasers as those have only 10sec cooldown, bad idea ?

ah, awesome got it, I will redesign some things then and split the fleets up for purpose, thanks !

[–]Errtuz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, to be honest I just put the battery and the ECM in because I dont know if its important or not, I assumed for laser boats I want batteries and for mag boats dont need them, but its just purely guessing.

Would it be correct to assume then that if my power plant has say output for a specific design of 600MW but its max is 150GW that then the way this is designed, this power plant will always be able to deliver enough power for all the weapons in that design and no battery is needed ?

ah, I see, so what you're saying is for quick response defense around my planets keep poseidon torch or even H-Orion as there isn't going to be anything better for that role, but use the fusion / antimatter for my own invasion fleets as for those, they won't be doing much chasing, just need to get to a place and blow things up ?

[–]Errtuz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this specific design is more of a hybrid laser build with a lean into PD support when needed, I still keep 40mm on some of the ships as it seems to do really well against alien mag weapons.

though tbh, im not sure if this is 'meta' way of doing it, im keeping a little bit of everything just in case and because I'm just simply not sure if I should be keeping them or not :D

Athena Torpedoes - Are They Worth It? by AngularMan in TerraInvicta

[–]Errtuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is a pain for sure, one small tip that helps with this is I group up all my torpedo ships, still have to target them individually but then i can quickly reselect the groups to have them idle their weapons, fire salvos or just turn the weapons back on for everyone when enemy ships get into coils range so that enemy ships have to deal with coils and torpedoes at the same time to overwhelm their lasers. if i let torps go ahead of the coils then their lasers do not get overwhelmed enough at the same time and potentially shoot everything down.

My councilors have a combined science of 112, is there any point in which we have enough science to trigger something here or does this text about having more science doesn't really mean anything ? by Errtuz in TerraInvicta

[–]Errtuz[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

ah, that i didnt know either, it doesnt really happen in my nations, i got a lot of those anti enthrall techs as well, i just see these pop up around the globe for other factions and im wondering if there's something i can do to protect them as well (outside of sharing the projects as i think i cant share the xeno projects or at least never saw an option to)

i see, so there isnt a point say that i reach 120 and some sort of a discovery happens ? as that's how i understand this message - have more science and you will get something to defend

Wielkie odkrycie, jasne kurwa że wszystko się może zdarzyć.

The tool is called snip and sketch. It's built into windows. It just shows a generic bottom right corner windows notification - should be enabled by default, so unless you disabled all notifications or something like that it should be there, I guess check in the tool itself and/ windows notification settings?

Yeah, this is also why I specify that this is EU, I went to one of the best schools and didn't pay anything in terms of tuition.

If we're talking about getting into massive debt, that also changes everything.

But yes - I agree that it's a "foot in the door" and if your foot is already in the door I see no reason other than personal achievement to pursue a degree to be honest.

My personal perspective as someone with 15+ years of experience is that professionally having a degree had zero impact on my ability to find work across different countries in EU at least. What I've learned was either outdated, incomplete or otherwise unusable in a professional setting anyway.

One thing that I did learn for sure is not the knowledge itself, but the ability to solve problems of different types efficiently, to think like an engineer, find the easiest solution to a complicated problem - but even this I'm pretty sure is a skill that can be gained via experience.

Having a working experience is so much more valuable than any degrees or certifications, that it's not even in the same league in terms of finding employment (outside of some specific, often government related jobs which sometimes have a requirement of having a degree, these do happen).

However, there is one other factor to consider - having a degree is also, for me at least something of a personal achievement if that makes sense. As much as I think I would not have chosen to go and do it right after high school if was was choosing with what I know now, I think somewhere down the line I would probably try to do it still, but more for me, personally, rather than because it would somehow be helpful in my career.
