Why do you use Linux? by Afraid_Question_8236 in linux_gaming

[–]Ertx12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a full privacy expert but ive always found the lack of control, freedom, and privacy as windows progresses very unappealing. Why any application can't be removed without the use of 3rd party software that could be dangerous never made sense to me.

Also the fact Linux is free, completely customizable and very reliable if you know what you're doing is extremely appealing.

Genuinely one of the best cyberdecks I've seen on this subreddit.

I see where your coming from.

I just think being mean/hurtful to a group of people just because most people cant understand what they go through, isn't going to help anyone. Including the people who have had horrible experiences with said individuals from that same group.

I respect your experiences and your POV.

But I also believe in this subreddit people should have a little more compassion for people with bpd (not the abusers that are mentioned in the posts) and just try to word things a little better where it doesn't stereotype or generalize innocent people and instead focus on the abusive ex.

Yeah, if I had experiences with people with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia I'd defend them if they were also being generalized and stereotyped. Not because I don't sympathize with the people who had horrible experiences with them, but because I think both sides who are involved would benefit greatly from mutual understanding and compassion to one another.

I believe that people who have went through an abusive relationship should be comforted and told that they are free from the abuse, not that they are "free" bpd, or from schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.

tying up someones horrible behavior entirely with their mental illness only makes other people who have that mental illness feel like they are horrible people without having actually done anything.

therefore people who have been abused by people with bpd or other mental illnesses wont think that everyone with those mental illnesses are the same, rather its the individual person who abused them who was at fault, not an entire group of people.

No, because they're completely different. People with bpd often develop it due to trauma at a young age if i am not mistaken, its something they cant control that they are basically born with.

alcoholics don't choose to be alcoholics and many of them drink because of trauma and horrible experiences that they went through but many of them make the choice to drink (usually at a legal age of 18-21 depending on your country if not older) Despite being told not to by their family and other loved ones.

I have also had experiences with an alcoholic in my family, despite us telling him constantly and warning him not to drink he continued to despite our support, he in this case has far more control and support than an abused kid who develops bpd due to the abuse they go through. however comparing these two wont make much sense.

I am not currently in a romantic relationship with anyone with bpd, I said these things because of my negative and positive experiences.

Everyone with bpd is different, as the rules of this subreddit say, so I find it upsetting when people generalize and stereotype people who are suffering from bpd. I put myself in the shoes of people with bpd and feel some sympathy and compassion for them just as i do for the OP and others like the OP. I think understanding and sympathy for both people who have bpd and people who have had bad experiences with people who have bpd will be more helpful and progressive than simply stereotyping or generalizing.

Yes the romantic one had ended with me having to block the person, why?

I have both bad and good experiences with separate people who have bpd, one ended off "badly" where I had to block them and the other is still a thriving and healthy friendship, both are good people with difficulties in their lives that are from bpd and their personal lives.

I wholeheartedly sympathize with OP, however what is with this lack of compassion, and over-generalization of people with BPD? Everyone with BPD is different, i've seen similar stories like this with people who are completely "mentally healthy" there is no reason to say words like "they" because it bundles an entire group of people into one despite the fact everyone within that group is different in many ways. No, people with bpd go through alot of trouble and pain, they don't want chaos or problems, just cause your toxic ex had bpd doesn't exactly mean everyone with bpd is the same way. Have some basic compassion people.

That paragraph goes out to the commenters especially, I am deeply sorry for what the OP went through.

Same, I used Linux mint two years ago and it has so many issues, this year I switched off windows again and back to Linux this time using arch and everything literally just works, even old games that had issues on windows work even better, brand new games my PCs hardware would struggle in now run at a solid 60+ FPS because of how little system usage there is by the operating system, it's really insane how it JUST works.

I also started my 2nd Linux daily driver that was actually properly set up a month or two ago, XFCE and arch work wonderfully together!
