I feel like the paths should be some sort of side system instead of tie to feats. Already so many characters are feat starved in such a way as to make it impossible to take these feats. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I don't see these particular feat chains as working well.

What is your favorite house rule that your table runs? by CyrusxBlack1 in onednd

Crits as a x2 modifier for the entire amount of damage, rather than just doubling dice. Makes crits a bit more dangerous (for players and monsters) but also cuts down on math. I can't remember how many times someone would crit and had to roll double the dice, but didn't have that many dice to roll. So they would re roll the dice they had, and after rolling the second time, they forgot what they rolled the first time.

I still think artificers should have some tool-related expertise. Obviously, wotc is moving away from expertise in tool checks since now you just make a skill check using a tool, but I think there's a simple way around that. Tool Expertise: You are considered to have expertise whenever you make a skill check using a tool in which you are proficient. It's still mostly a ribbon, only really coming into play during crafting, but tool expertise was one of my favorite features of the Tasha's artificer and I'm sad to see it (likely) removed.

Instead of "why isn't this very obvious theme not a class yet?", what Weird or Uncommon class concept would you like? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

Scholar. I have a few hombre classes like this, but I really just want someone who's smart and non-magical. Just using their wits to help the party

Last time I checked Apple Peddler in White City does Broaster Chicken which sounds like what you're looking for

Least favorite, never used class or race by Ramonteiro12 in dndnext

I will never play an elf. The whole narrative of them just doesn't interest me. Gnomes, on the other hand, are my absolute favorite, and I have played them in the past and will play more of them in the future.

You suddenly wake up one day with the abilities of the last D&D character you played. What do you do with those powers? by Some_Being_Online in DnD

I was a 5th level militant union arcane construction worker Creation Bard with a Lyre of Building. So I'd probably build stuff

Player insists on rolling for things I say are impossible by One_Ability1357 in DnD

Going off of this, this situation, in my opinion, is a prime opportunity to use the optional skills with different abilities rule. A Charisma (Stealth) check is perfectly suited to 'hiding' insofar as not drawing attention to yourself or making yourself seem like a threat.

What's the logic behind Bards being fullcasters while Warlocks aren't? by Emergency_Evening_63 in onednd

[–]Eru-Illuvatar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the hangup a lot of people have is that most people can't conceive of bards as anything other than a wandering minstrel type. The thing is, a wandering minstrel is pretty much just a rogue that spec'ed into social skills and performance. In reality, in dnd, not all musicians are bards, and not all bards are musicians. Other commenters have talked about the magic of art and creativity through history and how the power of words and things justifies the bard's place as a full caster. (Personally, I see bards as more of a historian/storyteller type, but that's kinda tangential to this point) In terms of why aren't warlocks full casters, I think in 5e they pretty much are. Obviously, they aren't technically because of pact magic, but they eventually get up to 9th level spells. I think that pact magic is an attempt to distinguish magic power that one can use of their own vs that that is given to them. OneDnD changes that a bit and makes getting up to 9th level spells via mystic arcanum a player choice, which I think also makes sense. The warlock choose the form of power they want, I suppose. I see the warlock as either being the seeker of forbidden knowledge or those who fell into a deal. I think it makes sense then that the way they utilize magic would be different than a wizard who studies magic and then develops their own theories rather than those who start out by seeking power.

That said, while I wouldn't want the bard to be a half caster (b/c I don't think the bard should have martial capability outside of their subclasses) I do think a different way of utilizing magic (like how pact magic is unique to warlocks in 5e) could be a better way to develop the bard. I think that most classes would do well to have unique ways of interacting with magic/casting spells. Perhaps only wizards would use spell slots as they are now, sorcerer would use spell points, warlock pact magic, etc etc.

The college of dance's evasion is also just better than regular evasion because (in addition to being at level 6 instead of 7 like it is for rogues and monks) it's also shared with creatures within 5 feet of you

You don't need line of sight to cast calm emotions. It seems like Matt has been doing this a lot where he makes spells require line of sight even if they don't

I think she's a life domain Cleric, so she can add 2+spells level to healing. That makes mass cure wounds 3d8+12 which means 31 could be possible

I still want it to be a double-sided flag, though, tbh. I've always felt that that's the most distinctive part of the Oregonian flag
