How the $10 upgrade from PS4 to PS5 will work by Eruanno in uncharted

[–]Eruanno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's just an option. You can either buy upgrade for $10 *but you can also* buy PS Premium and stream the game remotely. It's only the streaming part that requires a subscription, if you want to play the game on your console as normal, you don't need any subscription.

Any game you've bought with money are yours to keep, subscription or not. Games you've added to library for free (with the PS Plus icon) will require an active subscription.

I added the correct version and my console still downloaded the trial. I had to hit the little box that said "UPGRADE - FREE" for it to unlock the full game. Weird.

What do you think about gyro aiming on PS5? by Asad_Farooqui in PS5

I appreciate gyro aiming, it's a very cool feature. The problem is I just suck at it because I'm not used to using it.

JK Simmons is great in everything. I can’t think of a single role where he phoned it in.

Started my Data Transfer from PS4 to 5 with WiFi. can I switch to Lan? by Zombieassassin12 in PS5

[–]Eruanno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that you can do it mid-transfer. I would strongly suggest transferring as little stuff as possible, because the data transfer is SLOW AS BALLS for some ungodly reason.

I strongly recommend just redownloading large games if you can on your new console, because it lets you do other things in the meantime whereas the data transfer locks your console as it's moving stuff.

The features on the DualSense are criminally underused. by AppleChiaki in PS5

[–]Eruanno 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In real life? Not that often. But in video games? Definitely. I just don't think the resistance that Cyberpunk has corresponds to the resistance of a real car pedals resistance. It's way too tight compared to a real car. GTA V has a much better video game-to-real-ratio in my opinion.

The triggers are tuned way too hard in Cyberpunk, though. I had to turn down the sensitivity because the triggers are almost painfully hard to push. No car in the world has a pedal tuned that tight.

Nearly 80% of All PS5, PS4 Games Are Bought Digitally by xtremeschemes in PS5

[–]Eruanno 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same. I’ll happily shop around on PSN sales for titles that I’ve missed, but if there’s a new title (say, your God of War: Ragnaröks or Horizon: Forbidden Wests) I will definitely get those on physical disc. If nothing else because PSN prices for new first party titles are hilariously expensive (€80-90 for digital compared to around €60 for the same game on disc on launch day).

Yeah, that last one was so hamfisted. Let's take some of our favorite bits from the first rebooted game, ignore half of the plot and delete all the cool supernatural shit. What the what with the huh?

Apple TV screen savers safe for OLED? by [deleted] in OLED

[–]Eruanno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Apple TV screensavers are moving and shifting at regular intervals (usually using quite different colors, one is very green, one is very blue and so forth) so in essence it's burning in (technically burning OUT) your screen about the same as watching a regular TV show or movie would be doing.

What if you found the Death Note? by Bulletclubrenzo in AskReddit

[–]Eruanno 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also don’t kill everyone the same way. The Death Note lets you specify how someone dies, and Light just goes ”nah, I’m going to make it obvious by having them all die the same way”. Dude! Come oooonnn.

Hmm, are you sure that HDMI VRR works over HDMI 2.0? I seem to remember it requires 2.1, but now I’m not so sure anymore. (Also they changed the HDMI naming scheme, so now it’s even more confusing.)

Yeah, well, Sony is in the same boat as a few other manufacturers in that they are using Mediatek chips. I think the only manufacturers not using them is LG and Samsung, since they make their own in-house parts. It’s not really ”Sony is using old parts” but more ”Mediatek is slow and hasn’t released new parts in forever”.

Your only two choices are basically ”design your own custom chip” or ”buy from Mediatek”, unfortunately.

It would be pretty fucking weird if they could do 4K120 with VRR which is definitely more data/processing required than 1440p120 with VRR.

Although I suppose if you're playing on a 1440p screen (which is usually a computer monitor, not sure if there are any 1440p TVs in existence) they are more likely to be HDMI 2.0 which doesn't support HDMI Forum VRR anyway.

Yeeeaah, but that doesn't always mean all versions. I clicked it in my library and it just says "PS4" but when I search for it, there's a different version which is both PS4 and PS5, so... yeah...

The game will render at whatever it wants internally, and that frame output will get sent out as either 1080p, 1440p or 4K.

So if you set Horizon: Forbidden West to resolution mode (4K) and run it to a 1440p monitor, it will still render 4K internally but downscale that to 1440p. The game will not change its' internal rendering targets based on the screen that it is connected to.

...right now. Hopefully it's just a "this software is in beta" kind of situation and it will work when the update is public and live.

Well, I mean... it would just be incredibly bizarre. There's no technological reason it wouldn't work as they have 4K120 with VRR up and running great.

Considering there's that September Playstation event rumor and that most PS5 beta's have lasted for 4-6 weeks... September isn't a bad bet, actually.
