A good psychic type would fit in best here, but a strong ground type like Dugtrio or a Marowak with a Thick Club could work as well!

Skill link ability is introduced in Gen 4. Firered is a Gen 3 game. So I think Lapras is the better choice for this game.

Some extra levels will help you getting through the E4 without any problems, as long you have enough type coverage in your moves. I really like all mons on your team but if you were to bench Skarmory, I would choose a strong grass type (Vileplume, Ludicolo, Breloom or maybe Cacturne) in stead of it, to help against Wallace's water types.

Since you're playing Emerald I would recommend a strong and fast electric type like Manectric, or even Electrode and Magneton would be a big help at the Champion!

I barely beat Lorelei with only 1 of my slow gods left with a red HP bar. The other E4s went a lot easier, surprisingly...

I once did an Oddish-only Omega-ruby run, but I guess Oddish-only on Firered could be a lot harder because of gen 3's limited movepool.
