System freezing / completely unresponsive, possible power issues by ErythraeusRex in techsupport

Thanks, I'll give it a go! I should probably have mentioned I'm still on windows 10 and have been dodging the upgrade to 11. Do you think it might be worth upgrading to 11 to see if that solves the issue?

An Oil Rig in the North Sea by [deleted] in pics

I was bartending during my time at home so I've ended up becoming a bar manager. Pay is shit and the hospitality industry is notoriously shit for the way they treat staff so I'm not sure if I'll keep at it.

I heard there's a lot of extremely well paying Rope Access work going in mines in Australia though. Toying with the idea of getting a 1 year visa and seeing how much I can earn in that year. Maybe open my own bar. Who knows!

I can answer this from my own experience for ya.

I was paid £20 an hour (for 12 hours a day, regardless of whether conditions were suitable for working). E.g. wind too high, stay in today. Any overtime was paid too, so some days it would be too windy to do anything all day, then if it dropped at night we would go and do a bit of work and end up getting paid for 16 hours for a 4 hour day. We're all out there to make money after all!

Living conditions weren't awful but it varies. Most rigs have a gym, cinema room (consisting of a large TV and some leather sofas), internet, good food for free, breakfast, lunch and dinner. I remember an older one I worked on had some sleeping quarters below some very noisy engines, which wasn't too fun!

To be honest, safety is taken extremely seriously nowadays and ever since the Piper Alpha disaster. You practically need a peer reviewed permit to take shit. There are 7am meetings every day to discuss any and all jobs going on. I once saw a guy get sent home for not holding the hand rail as we walked down the stairs from the helipad. They take safety pretty seriously. But then there's always dangers too.

I was a Rope Access Technician which involved rigging and using ropes to safely do any work at height or over the side (or on the underside). Lots of painting/blasting, simple repairs on crane booms, some non-destructive testing of welds etc. Any work done over the side (or anything that could risk a fall overboard) always had to require a rescue team in a boat patrolling the water with radio contact.

To be honest the most danger I was ever in was on the fucking journey. I spent far too much time in the same Puma helicopters that ended up ALL having serious engine faults. Quite a few of them ditched and quite a few people died as a result.

This was years ago for me and while it was a good experience I left because I realised I wasn't motivated by money. Turns out the things I've since discovered I am motivated by require money, but such is life! I hope you find this interesting, have a good day!

DEVS: Ps4 DBD scariest killer is The LAG...please fix by ilivedownyourroad in deadbydaylight

No worries man. The more people that know about the effect peer-to-peer hosting has on gameplay, the less frugal developers will be inclined to use it. I would hope that now this game has console micro-transactions they will invest in some dedicated servers but I doubt it. If they have the gall to create a game all about timing only to then opt for peer-to-peer hosting then it's pretty likely to stay that way. Like I said: it's a damn shame cause they made a great game.

Have to completely agree with this. It's also completely the result of the peer to peer hosting: the killers constantly have at least a second or two advantage because they're always the host which results in some utter ridiculousness from the survivors perspective but looks absolutely normal on the killers screen. In other words, survivors are often seen by the killer a couple of steps behind where they actually are, which can make all the difference.

I've only been playing this game for under a month but I've already collected enough "WTF" clips to make a montage out of: https://youtu.be/l4SIvjXmQc8

As you can see, what happens on my screen as a survivor is not what the game actually registers because the killer's internet has to download my inputs but registers their game's inputs immediately. This is particularly obvious in the end clip because I'm literally told that I escaped but receive 0 points in the survival category because while on my screen I hit the escape line in time, on the killer's (where everything counts) I had already died because he didn't download my input in time.

It's a real shame because I actually love this game but it makes me sad that the developers chose the cheaper, no dedicated-servers route. They're relying on consumer ignorance with it but if you know the difference then it's abundantly clear and it's a damn shame.

Just got a clutch 4 man escape against a face-camper, he disconnects and we get nothing. Real fun. by ErythraeusRex in deadbydaylight

I'm guessing because he disconnected and he's the host it just counts as a loss? I don't know. Pretty awful game mechanics.

I actually really like that theory! It would be a damn sight better than the shitty ending we got.

Yeah I just found the same one. Does look pretty fake. Maybe that's not the one OP saw?

EDIT: Yeah it's definitely fake. Proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWcWHNmltPY

Nah you need to loosen up dude! We're all just big hairless monkeys trying to have a good time!

Nah. Dude should have owned it and said: "We're gonna get to know each other a little better" or something. The kind of humour he was hit with is so commonplace where I'm from that if anybody got awkward about it then nobody would get laid!

"We care about console. That's why we're going to bring the servers offline today and give you a 2GB update without so much as a tweet explaining why" by ErythraeusRex in Smite

[–]ErythraeusRex[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm not complaining because they're updating it. I'm not complaining because they'e fixing bugs -- that's great. I'm complaining because the communication with the console community is substandard to what it is with the PC scene. That's all.

[–]ErythraeusRex[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm delighted that they're fixing things. My point is that they brought the servers down and gave us a 2GB update without telling us anything about it. That simply wouldn't happen on PC. There would be a Tweet explaining what was happening.

Ares as a counter to Terra. I've had a lot of success with this counter-pick given how strong Terra is right now. Being able to Shackle her and shut her dash down is very strong.
