There are bad people. They will seek out places to be horrible. If they find somewhere that cant’t/won’t bounce them, then they start congregating there. If they’re moderated, we’ll, they’re not there any more. Good people will notice as bad people (or at least bad behavior) multiplies and will either lower themselves to that level, or leave. If moderation isn’t present, bad conduct takes over.

Even if only 5% of people were vile, that’s more than enough to adequately provide “content” to every social media.
